Lovely, friendly staff checked us in the evening we arrived & the lady who served our delicious breakfast was wonderful - so friendly, chatty & helpful, which we appreciated so much. Some basic, very fixable things would have improved our stay greatly & will help future guests: *Regular laundering of the colourful throw/blanket on the bed, which had a visible, dubious stain (no-one wants to pay to be reminded how previous guests spent their visit!!!) * The casing over the base of the pole that held the shower head was broken, but had been placed back on loosely, so as soon as I touched the shower to adjust the head, it fell down & bashed my toe! *Sadly the shower hose was leaking so badly where the head joined the hose, that the water coming out of the shower head was barely adequate to wash in! *Only one small, narrow, high up glass shelf in the ensuite, so insufficient space for toiletries! *Not a towel rail or heated radiator in sight & only one hook for 4 towels & 2 hanging toilet bags, so not a workable equation! Towel rails & a couple of shelves wouldn’t break the bank & would make such a helpful difference to paying guests! *Room was a little dark & very small but in a 17th century former coaching inn, that’s understandable & indeed acceptable.

It was a fun experience to stay in a pub. Private parking on site. Room was cozy, mostly quiet away from the bar area. Tea pot for coffee and team. Biscuits and fresh coffee provided daily. Breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Seemed a tad pricey given we were there during off season.

Very friendly, very comfortable. Food and drink was good, as was the location. I'd stay here again.

Nice room, though small for a double. Quiet even though above bar. Good breakfast.

Location was excellent, food was delicious. Loved being able to have a drink and not have to drive anywhere. It was very comfortable located in town close by an area of outstanding beauty. Nothing

Location, staff and facilities Room was too warm due to skylight window having no blind facility as it added to the room being hot

Location, and hotel car park dead opposite. Didn’t tell us that they stopped taking food orders at 7.45pm. We were gobsmacked when they told us that at 7.50pm. We went elsewhere and did so the following night in protest. So they lost 6 dinners, 6 desserts and 18 beer sales. This should be a crucial part of the welcome, and/or an important note in big, bright, bold letters on the booking confirmation advice. You’re losing trade!!!!!!

The quality of the food was exceptional - proper breakfasts and home-made pies The bathroom door in room 5 was too heavy to slide properly.

Excellent location, Castleton is beautiful, and plenty to do and see within walking distance. The pub itself is traditional, cosy and friendly with great food and character. We will be coming back. Minor issue which won't affect everyone, but we unfortunately had a room with only a skylight window so no view or fresh air.

The location was perfect, staff friendly and comfortable room with all the facilities you would expect. Breakfast and evening meals were exceptional. The Easter egg waiting for me after a full day of trekking was a lovely touch! This was my first solo trip in the UK and I felt very safe and at ease staying at the pub. I will definitely stay again! No complaints
