Flying Dog Hostel Cusco

The staff are friendly, welcoming, and available 24 hours a day. They are professional, helpful, and genuinely care about their guests. I stayed there for four or five nights and kept coming back whenever I returned to Cusco because I felt comfortable and well taken care of. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, and the team is always willing to help. Sometimes they are so eager to assist that you may need to remind them if you're in a hurry, but their kindness and hospitality are part of what makes the place special. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Cusco. Humidity

Great location, nice size bedrooms and beautifully laid out common areas. Smelt a bit like cat pee in the common areas, not sure why. Breakfast could be improved upon, super basic.

We did not have a window, so our room (and the entire hostel) always smelled

The location of this hostel is ideal. It's very close to the main plaza, with plenty of cafes and restaurants near. It's not to far a walk from San Blas and the Sacsayhuaman site. The breakfast was basic. There was tea available all day long and access to the kitchen to cook and boil the kettle. There is a microwave and a small gas stove. The kitchen is very basic. Our room was clean, lots of natural light. There was a heater in our room for cold nights and the beds have decent blankets and duvets on same. Like most places in Cusco there was little hot water in the shower. They didn't change our towels, but did change our bed sheets during our stay (we were there 4 nights). Laundry is available for 8 soles per kg and can get back the same day. We were charged 24 soles and felt our laundry wasn't this heavy, if anything it was less than 2 kg in weight, so that wasn't pleasant to be over changed for this service. Especially when we are travelling on a budget.

The bed and pillows were comfortable and there was hot water always which is a rarity im Peru. Check-in employee was nice and gave us extra blanket due to the freezing temperatures of the room and lack of heater. Breakfast ends a little later than most hotels. The cleaning ladies did a great job as the room was always clean. We had a difficult time not getting the bathroom floor wet with the curtains and they always mopped it. The price was OK for Cusco for approximately $29 per night for a room with a private bathroom and basic breakfast. I have to say that they had the most basic breakfast out of every place we stayed at in Peru. They have bread and toast, tea, coffee, juice (not natural), grains for cereal and they give you only one egg. No fruits. Every place I stayed at gave two eggs per person, except this hotel. Definitely will not leave you full. The first day we had breakfast we came down at 9:30am and there was only toast. I asked if there was regular bread and they gave me two. I asked if there was more and they said if I wanted more I could only grab toast with no explanation even though they had plenty more. Very very stingy. Anywhere you can buy 4 breads for 1 Sol in Cusco so I found that to be very tasteless of the breakfast staff. Also I wanted more bread to bring to my partner so we had 2 breads for each of us. They saw he did not grab any bread so I dont understand why they said that. Also, they dont give you breakfast to go like all other hotels do in Cusco. Something very annoying was having to do the dishes. The company replies on peoples comments that since it is a “hostal” you have to do the dishes. Ive stayed in over 30 hostals and for breakfast Ive never had to do the dishes ever. This is a bit of an inconvenience since tours from Cusco leave early so you have to factor in the time to do the dishes. The room we had (on the second floor) was supeeer cold. You cannot stay in the room without being underneath the covers. Also its very luck of the draw with the room you get as we did not get the newer remodeled rooms with heaters but paid the same rate. Would have preferred to pay a little more for a nicer room since the one we had wasnt the nicest looking (furniture was worn, room was cold abd bathroom ceiling had weird dark marks like from humidity) They store bags for 5 soles per bag (in other hotels this was free. I even had a hotel store our whole luggage for more than 24hrs while we were in Machu Picchu for free).

Nice couches in the hang out areas, clean bathroom, basic but good value for the price. I stayed in a private room. Quiet hostel out of the way of things in an area i liked. Not a super friendly hostel, more kind of a quiet vibe, staff is reserved, gets the job done.

The place is under renovation, so lots of debris. The internet in the upper floor is not good, we barely got reception. The breakfast is very simples, with only bread, butter and jelly, and they make scrambled eggs by request, but I missed cheese and other options, which were lacking most days, so we bought some items to complement during breakfast.

Staff were very helpful and recommended a very good tour of the Sacred Valley. Location was also excellent and breakfast very good. Bathroom wasn't always very clean and there was mould on the walls and ceilings.
