Everything about the property was excellent. Excellent customer service attention to detail and very clean. The staff went out of the way to assist. Everything about the property is so immaculate nothing to complain

The mattress was... a bit worn out

Expensive and location is a problem
-
It is a beautiful, luxurious place, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that it is a little on the expensive side. You get what you pay for right? If you are able to, and money is not really an object, stay for more nights, but our budget didn't allow for it. For us, it was a one-night "splurge", but it was worth it. Gero itself, is also a bit out of the way. You will most likely be a few hours train ride away from wherever your next stop is, but again, for ME it was worth it. Plus, a lot of the train ride is quite peaceful and scenic, especially in the fall. I just mention the length of the train rides here so you know.

great onsen

Clean and nice bath. Room was too small.

The meals were outstanding. Good location.

The mixed Western and Japanese room was very comfortable for my family since my mom cannot sleep on the floor and me and my brother are really keen on it. The hotel is very charming, good kaiseki dinner. Walking distance from public onsen and town, very nice. Great view on the river.

The room was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The futon beds are very hard. Pillows were fluffy though.

Nothing

Onsen facilities very good - including the ice lollies provided. Room was very tired and old fashioned. Towels were small and only one each (plus an onsen towel). Apart from the onsen, it felt expensive for what we got.
-
Impeccable assistance from the Yamatagaya staff made my stay truly memorable. The iron kettle tub was exceptional, and both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. My only regret is not having stayed an extra day at this wonderful onsen.

Location , staff, food ,everything was great. The internet was slow at night.

The onsen is quite beautiful, especially the outdoors Some of the hotel has a bit of a run down feeling but it’s fine and very clean.
