K's House Hakuba Alps - Hostel

The location was good, very close to the Escal Plaza. And the staff were very warm, welcoming, and helpful if we had any issues. Thank you for the guide when I lost myself on the first night when I arrived in Japan, as they suggested I live in Nagano and get the bus for another day; very helpful suggestions. Also, the mattress is very firm, so I slept well every night, haha. The only thing is that the space in the mixed dormitory is a bit too small; if four or five travelers have at least one suitcase, the room may not have enough space for everyone to open their suitcases. That would be great if open bunk beds were separated in both female and male dormitories, but I know in busy seasons it may not be easy, so it's only suitable for those easygoing solo (female) travelers.

Beautiful common area with panoramic windows, fully equipped kitchen, and just a 10-minute walk to the mountain lifts. Includes complimentary pick-up/drop-off by car from the bus station! There are no separate rooms for men and women, which made my 6-night stay in a male-only room very uncomfortable. Gender-specific rooms are essential. Bus transfers to other valley areas also lack a reliable schedule—getting around after 5 PM was quite challenging.

Great hostel. Staff stood out especially! Niki, Melevan and Hana went out of their way to make sure guests are accommodated. Location is really good if you want to ride at Goryu or 47, less than 10 mins walk to the resorts. Kitchen also fully equipped and available fridge and storage for food. Common area also very nice and cozy. Pick up and drop off service also really convenient!

What stood out most was the outstanding hospitality. The staff were kind, informative, and spoke excellent English. I arrived around midnight, and check-in was a breeze thanks to their 24-hour access system and thoughtful instructions with my key ready. While the hotel is around 15 minutes on foot from Kamishiro Station, the staff kindly gave me a ride in their shuttle. A special shoutout to Toshi, who generously lent me his crampons for my mountain hike — a total lifesaver! This is a superb and affordable base in rural Japan — perfect for backpackers, solo travelers, and anyone looking for a welcoming mountain stay. Highly recommended!

The place is 10 minute walk from the Goryu ski lift and 10 minutes away from the bus station taking you to Tokyo and other resorts in the valley. Owners are really amazing. They are so patient with foreign guests and explain Japanese ways of living. They also offered me a lift to the bus station which was really sweet. The living room is really warm and inviting to hang out. The view from it is really picturesque. The surrounding area is quaint

It was a very cool house off the main road so it was quiet which was nice after coming back from a long day out. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

Ks House was far better than we had anticipated given its description as a hostel. We stayed in a twin room with ensuite attached for 4 nights, which was a pretty good size, there was a small TV and a little table with 2 chairs which made the room more cramped. Linen and towels were provided. Bedrooms located upstairs and the common area is downstairs - this area really is cozy, with some couches, tables and chairs (western or Japanese option), and floor to ceiling windows that wrap around giving you a stunning view of the outside. The shared kitchen was never too crowded and was always in a clean state. The staff are what make this stay great. Toshi (hope I spelled this right) seemed like he was always around to answer questions or give advice. It really had a homely feeling. The drying room was small but they solved this issue by having gear (skis, boards, boots) downstairs and clothing (helmets, gloves, jackets, pants) on drying on racks on the 2nd floor. In terms of location, in winter, there was a free shuttle that picked you up just on the corner of the street and took you to Goryu Mountain- from there the other main busses can take you to the other mountains. We walked once, and although mostly an uphill climb with gear, it only took 15 minutes. There are a few restaurant options within walking distance as well and did not feel the need to get a taxi anywhere. The longest walk is to the 7/11 (15mins). Very convenient location. You could feel the springs in the beds but otherwise after a big day of snowboarding, you don't tend to notice that for too long. A small set of drawers for clothes or some shelving to put empty bags on to help clear the floor would be ideal as we had a suitcase and a snowboard bag. We didn't use the chairs as we sat on the beds and we never used the TV as we had phones or tablets/laptops.

This was only a 10 minute walk to the ski field and the hosts were so helpful with giving us information on buses or taxis or restaurants to dine at. Could find no fault with this accommodation.
