Location is perfect for exploring Hanoi and the staff were so friendly and helpful!
-
everything perfect Good staff Mrs Celine and Mr jack so kind

Accessibility
-
It is really convenient because its close to the nearby shops, restau and some tourist spots. It is very frank. You pay what you actually needed.
-
The room is small and older.
-
Celine is very accommodating. They gave me complimentary breakfast. Location is steps away from Nice places
-
The staff were AMAZING! The pictures on Booking.com are AI generated and looking nothing like the actual room. The room was very outdated and a lot of things were broken (toilet seat, shower handle, etc.). The floor was also tearing up and felt dirty
-
Staff were amazing, very welcoming, and professional, in particularly Celine who was absolutely wonderful! She was very attentive to our needs and helped us book our train to SaPa. Celine was definitely a gem! Loved her! Location was great! The property itself was not bad but needs some attention. Every time we used the shower, it flooded into the rest of the bathroom. The balcony was nice but the doors are not soundproof so can hear construction throughout the night which made it difficult to sleep. Our room was not as pictured on the website as we had a more dated room.

Staff and hotel are good?
-
The "window" in the bathroom did not close
-
Tom, the receptionist, is very approachable and nice. We love it here. The rooms are big enough, comfortable and eveything we were looking for in a hotel. We would love to come back. :)

Thumbs up. Really good location. NA
-
Standard room was a bit small but manageable since the hotel is centrally located and all major attractions are a 10 minute walk
-
The location was perfect, right in the heart of the city and very close to West Lake. The staff were extremely helpful, especially Tom, who made the stay even more enjoyable. They were very flexible in accommodating requests, and the check-in and check-out times were convenient and flexible
-
Very close to everything and old quarters. Easy access too. Nothing much.
-
The location is near small town, The staff are extremely kind and helpful .Jack and Tom , Alex are enthusiastic as well as bring surprise . The accommodation is good, beautiful
-
The property is a French Style Building that is located in Old Quarter. Its accessibility being near tourist spot makes it attractive. The only thing I didn’t like about the property is the thin walls and the old AC which is bearable.

Firstly, the ugly: Be aware of the reviews!!! The staff will give you a small gift when checking out and ask you to take a minute to write a review. If you say later, they will encourage you to do it on the spot. I experienced this persuasion after the first stay with a limo van driver impatiently waiting out the front which gave me the excuse to say I would do it later and left. This pre-warned me for my return stay and I investigated to see if my reviews could be edited or deleted…. they can be deleted. When leaving after the second stay I was pressured again and when I agreed (knowing I would later delete it) I was persuaded to give a rating of 10 as they then get a bonus. The same for my first visit review as the staff member asked for my phone and looked up that stay so I could rate it. He overlooked one nights booking which left me an opportunity to post this accurate review. The good: Great location. The rooms I stayed in, 401 and 301, were well decorated and furnished. Ensuite is small, with basin at end of room, however shower size is good although needs an upgrade. Good hot water, but takes 2-4 minutes to reach the room. Room lighting was perfect, even over basin and mirror. Very little traffic noise reaches the rear rooms. Breakfast was good at another hotel down the street. The staff, other than this uncomfortable persuasion for reviews or their involvement in misleading guests, were friendly and obliging. They allowed me to use the staff bathroom for a shower after checkout as I was not flying out of Hanoi till late at night. Most hotels will have a bathroom for use in this situation, particularly if they have a pool. But there were negatives! Noise, no windows with views, inaccurate descriptions and photos. The configuration of this hotel is odd due to change of use which consists of rooms overlooking the street at the front and rooms at the rear squeezed in behind the adjoining hotels. The rear rooms have a window beside the wash basin and another in the shower which open into a ventilation shaft around 1m2. This is classified as a courtyard view in the room description for Superior Queen!!! Noise travels up it from the ground floor and other rooms opening onto it, even with windows closed. Noise also travels up and down the open internal stairs when cleaners start early. I booked a Deluxe Queen room which Tom advised would be on the 5th or 6th floor. On my first stay I was put in 401 on the 4th floor. There was no window with a city view. When I mentioned this to Eric who had checked me in he advised I had been put there as there was building work going on next door and this would be quieter. However, any room on any floor at the rear would be exposed to this which starts around 7am and will continue for months. I asked which rooms had windows with city views and was told floor 5 and 6, although he admitted these no longer had views, so I assume now looking onto walls. Misleading description and photos. Room 401 had a low plaster bathroom ceiling which showed black mold. Room 301 below it had a higher perforated metal panels ceiling but allowed the noise of waste water of the above rooms’ shower and toilet. In hindsight I realise I had been downgraded from a Deluxe Queen to a Superior Queen. I was offered another room in the Trang Trang hotel as an alternative at no extra charge, but this was no better. As I decided to stay where I was offered a transfer to the airport at no charge. The room safes are not attached to anything, code pad not in use but a master key can be requested. The glass screen/door of the showers have been salvaged from another property and don’t fit the width of the shower leaving a 100mm gap. TV did not work in the first room.

See my other review for more detail: "An honest, unmanipulated review – the good, the bad and the ugly!" The Deluxe and Superior Queen rooms are not large, but room layout (not windows) are as per photo and approximate size stated. They are ok for one person but would be a bit cramped for two. Being downgraded to a lesser room with no external window, although even the type of room I booked which shows photos of external windows and with a description of city views no longer has views as I was told when I enquired about these so called rooms with windows and city views. Misleading description and photos. It just wasn't worth the hassle to make an issue of these things given my short stays and not spending much time in my room other than to sleep. Most people will take this approach to avoid conflict or debates on their holidays. This is not a premium hotel and for Tom to think otherwise and dismissing low reviews and criticisms is burying his head in the sand, There are even broken tiles under the carpet in the entrance foyer. However, if the rooms were advertised accurately with appropriate photos and pointing out what might be viewed by guests as issues such as noise and no external windows, then guests can make an informed decision and weigh up the pros and cons of the hotel versus the price. This would minimize the need for damage control or apologies. The unrelenting pressure by staff to give a review before leaving, and persuading you to give a "10" score so that they can get a bonus. I have stayed at around 70 properties over the last 8 years and this is the first time I have been asked to write a review which is unprofessional, and the pressure applied is appalling. I would avoid all hotels on this side of the street as they are all run by the same person as I was told. Some of them including Tunger were previously shops with rooms above based on Google Street View photos of 2022. This explains the odd configuration of the hotel with a frontage of around 3.5m but this decreased to about 1.5m beyond the lift which is nothing more than a narrow staircase and corridor leading to the rear room entrance door, with the rooms tacked onto the rear of this and adjoining hotels.

the breakfast covered most of all the guest preference. Tom, the manager, and the staff at the counter was very helpful. They guided our schedule and gave good recommendation on sites to visit as well as resto to eat at. He even booked all our rides for airport pick up and departure. He was the main reason why we were comfortable and well taken cared of. The staff was all very hospitable and pleasant. It's the service that's worth the stay at the Tunger.
