AB Hotel Kyoto Shijo Horikawa

AB hotel is a well priced and pleasent establishment. A warning to foreigners no tattoos in onsen

The location was great. It had great access to many restaurants and yet was not too loud. There was also a bus stop very nearby. Since there is not a train station very nearby it can be difficult to reach if you have a lot of luggage.

Location is good. Really nice and clean hotel. Staff was friendly upon checking in. Only stayed one night. But had no complaints.

The staffs were polite and helpful. The facilities including room are clean, comfortable, quiet and private. It's a bit far from the main attractions. I mostly walk so it's about 30-40mins walk. Not undoable, but definitely a closer location will help.

The location was good It was so dirty , everywhere in the bathroom there was hair , toilet was dirty , I don’t think the bed sheets were changed

The hotel is recently built and very modern. Room size/bathroom size is about average for Japan (small and rather cramped). Beds are nice and firm, I got great nights sleep. Very quiet and private. Staff are very helpful and kind. Easy walking distance to Kyoto Station, Nishiki Market, tons of amazing restaurants and tiny shops (stick to the back alleys, treasure awaits!) and you can hop a bus to Tō-ji or a number of other places of interest. I would stay here again, with a few lessons learned. Breakfast is very Japanese - go to a konbini or bakery if this is not to your taste or you want something different. Be very cautious using the hotel coin op laundry. You can lock the machines with a code but they automatically unlock 30 minutes after the cycle is done. That is not clear from the instructions. I was a little late getting back downstairs and someone had already emptied my machine and stolen my Patagonia pullover and vest, which I really couldn’t afford to lose. No tattoos allowed in the onsen, large sign outside saying don’t even bother going in as you’ll be immediately kicked out.

I like this hotel the room was a bit bigger than the average japanese room size and it was ok comfortable. Location was great near a subway station, a lots of buses and various places to eat and supermarket. It also had a nice onsen Breakfast wasn't that great also only three laundry machines for the hotel size was kind of limited.

Good location During cleaning the staff misplaced my deep sleep eye mask. They couldn’t find it and refused to compensate for their negligence. They charge 10,000 yen for late check out but couldn’t offer 8,000 for their negligence. Furthermore, the outside baths were broken for the whole duration of our stay (1 week) and this was neither fixed nor compensated somehow either. Finally, they don’t follow any sustainable practices, reducing cleaning or amenities. I regret staying in this hotel.

Comfortable beds and spacious room for Japan. The washroom did have a don’t smell to it though… Loved the sento, just wish there were hair curlers and less hair on the dressing room floor
