Room was small

I like ibis Styles Kyoto Shijo because it's affordable, the location is terrific, and it's super affordable. The rooms are small, but also clean and comfortable. And I liked the general vibe of the place. I don't tend to spend much time at the hotel when I'm in Kyoto, so this suited me. It was a little trickier for my yoga practicing partner. I liked having so many attractions close-by, as well as the subway, Randen Line, and Kyoto Station. And the Fresco grocery, FamilyMart, and MOS Burger were food great options. While most of the service I received was really good, some of the staff could have been friendlier. In fact, it really pleasant was back in 2019 when it was a Hotel Unizo.

Location I didn’t like the hotel at all
-
Perfect location close to main Shijo street and lot of small restaurant around
-
location amenities.. toothbrush, coffee, tea.toothpaste etc has to go through receptionist area to request them. nit available in the room
-
floor plan layout. I was at another hotel with the same size but it is more comfy coz of how they put the beds

I like the location of this hotel as it was near a bus stop and was just a few minutes walk to the train station. It was very clean. Room was comfortable.

Close to stations, restaurants, and stations. Room was not clean - hair in the bathtub, bathroom walls dirty wall, baseboards and shelfs dusty and or marks that I had to disinfect before placing my toiletries. And the space to walk in the room was terrible - we had to walk sideways to get to bed, refrigerator, move around the room. They only provided comforters and no sheets. Based on evidence of need for more cleanliness, it made me wonder if comforters covers were clean and changed. When i asked evening staff for a sheet to serve as barrier from comforter- he questioned me why I wanted them and why the number requested (2 rooms three persons). They need more training in customer service and definitely in cleaning.

Basic hotel, clean. All needs were met. Lobby makes the hotel look nicer than the rooms are. Good laundry options. Rooms are tiny, no blackout curtains. Beds were hard by American standards.

All good

The location and staff I had a few issues: dirty kettle, which was changed and a safe box that didn’t work. The room was clean, but the overall appearance of the hotel seem old and a bit unkept
-
Clean, good location, easy to access the different areas of Kyoto. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Overall we had a nice time staying here. They need more elevators as it can take some time to get one. Also for what it is, it’s a little pricey.

amazing!!! walking distance from a lot of cool stuff, cozy room and friendly staff

location was good Not very good security

Relatively small but cozy room. About a 20 minute walk to Pontocho alley which is fine as i enjoyed walking it every night. Only about 5 minutes away from a metro station for those who prefer getting around fast. Buses are available just outside the hotel too. I liked the view in the morning as well as i got a room on the upper level. Great stay overall. Breakfast there is also simple but good (try the matcha sweets if you can, they're great). If you rent a normal room and have multiple bags or really big luggage you might not find enough space, but if you're a solo traveler with medium size bags you'll be just fine.

We have an issue with a strange smell coming from the bathroom in our first room, but the staff was kind to offer options when we told them the issue.
