    Beds were hard

Very dirty carpets and smell of cigarettes in lobby only.

The bed in 303 I rented for my son stated it was super hard...and I tested it and it was. 304 beds were good.

The location This hotel needs a renovation 10 years ago. It’s a disgrace to call it a 5 star hotel. It may have been 5 stars 20 years ago

  • Engine customer Mar 2026

Great location and the room was very traditional Japanese. Smelled like cigarettes smoke and the staff couldn’t effectively communicate English.

Ambiance ! Lovely and great location. Two huge rooms Japanese style and hanoki wooden tub! Convient Archery below me training tourist Ninjas. So when they were open constant thump of the target. I was in the room towards to street right above the Ninjas , I I would have known I would have got a different room but not a different place.

Local breakfast was not a good choice for us

  • Engine customer Feb 2026

super helpful front desk; beautiful room with all possible items for comfort; great shower; interesting and tasty breakfast experience in privacy of our own room in a cute little room - traditional Japanese style.

The building was secure. There was a nice restaurant around the corner from the hotel. There is an archery place in front of the hotel. The carpets in the room had stains of many different colors and shapes. The hot tub did not work. There was no “western” breakfast option. We were served a plant based breakfast suitable for Buddhist monks.

Room was so big for a Japanese hotel and the bed was not super firm like most beds in Japan! The hallway smelled of smoke

Kizashi The Suite was absolutely amazing! The room was perfect with comfortable beds, a gorgeous zen garden, a large wooden soaking tub, and tastefully decorated in tradtional Japanese decor with modern amenities. The location was also perfect in the Gion district within walking distance to many restaurants, Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizu Temple. We will definitely stay there again and will book our next trip around our stay at Kizashi!

Staff - barely speaks English, most are unprofessional. In general it is ok, Executive Suite is very big, few rooms, jacuzzi, etc. It is outdated though. Nice traditional breakfast, fully vegetarian

  • Engine customer Aug 2025

Size, location, clean, staff, bath. No windows, we didn't like the breakfast. Breakfast is late and in the appointment. We were 4th floor, the elevator always stops at 3th.only one bath and one toilets.

Likely the coolest hotel I’ve ever stayed in

  • Engine customer Jun 2025

A beautiful suite and lovely boutique feel. The location couldn’t be better in Gion district. The bathroom was awesome and bed excellent. Unexpectedly there was a separate room to meditate and an outdoor rock garden just for the room. I used this location as a base and did daily trips to Nara and Hiroshima. I didn’t like not having a choice for a western breakfast. I tried the Japanese one the first day but not to my test. It’s such an upscale place it’s surprising I couldn’t get a couple of eggs. I ended eating at Tullys for a small egg sandwich

  • Engine customer Jun 2025

Breakfast was fantastic. Traditional Japanese vegetarian. Served like in a Ryokan. 99% of the staff were incredible. The lighting was mood lighting. We prefer more light.

  • Engine customer May 2025

Location was perfect to see the Gion. Breakfast was so interesting , beautiful & delicious. Keiko , staff member made the visit worthwhile. Place was probably very nice years ago but was quite rundown. Entrance was very unnerving down a dark hall to elevators. Carpets were stained. Wood was banged up. Did not look like the pictures on booking. Com. Other staff members were blasé and couldn’t be bothered.

  • Engine customer May 2025

The location is great, but the property has definitely seen better days. Don’t be misled by the Michelin Red Pavilions being awarded nearly 10 years ago (according to the description) - it seems like the place hasn’t been updated since. At best, it gives off the feel of a cheap motel. The rooms were dusty and dirty, no proper windows, crowded with lamps, and the breakfast kaiseki meal was inedible (and there was a hair in it).
