La Jolla Shores Hotel

So close to the beach.

Perfect location. Staff was unfortunately less than helpful. Needed to call 4x for basic room refresh that should happen every day automatically. Was not told of beach towel and chair service at check. Only found out about it on day 3 of 3 day stay. Would have appreciated a lot more kindness given the price of each night's stay for my family.

Food at hotel was not good and expensive. Rooms were clean but they did not clean the rooms until later afternoon. Staff at front desk- friendly

Location to the beach and local restaurants was great.

What concerned me the most was that I felt there may have been some bias in the way we were treated. There were not many Spanish-speaking customers around, and I personally felt that the attitude and treatment toward us may have been influenced by the fact that we were Hispanic. I want to be clear that I cannot know the employees’ intentions, but the way the interaction felt left me uncomfortable and unwelcome. I believe everyone should receive the same level of courtesy, respect, and customer service regardless of their language, background, or ethnicity. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews what happened so that future customers do not have a similar experience.

The room was great, a little dated but well kept. We didn't know half the building would be under construction so the noise was a bit of an issue and the lack of pool was disappointing. But the staff was very attentive and the neighborhood was very cute with nice restaurants. I would go back.

Excellent location! Room was clean, loved the balcony and view of the beach and park. Room and hotel were clean, family friendly. Great place to stay!

Very outdated but the location was wonderful so was staff . Beds were fine but I did notice a lot of mosquitos.

Highly recommended stay! The room was a fantastic size and included a fridge, which was perfect for keeping our drinks and water cold. We loved the heated pool and the convenience of walking right out to the ocean, where chairs and umbrellas were already set up for us. The staff was absolutely amazing, and the food at the hotel restaurant was great. It is also within walking distance of several local spots for food and drinks. I will definitely be coming back!

Location is the best! The umbrella and chair service on the beach is worth everything. In Hawaii, you can pay up to $25/day just for a chair at many resorts. Love The Shires Restaurant.

Beachfront with chair service

Informed the front desk about an odor in my room and asked for another room. They said they would notify the manager but I never got a call. Shuttle was not running Monday and the restaurant was short staffed as my family and I sat down and had to walk about after 15 minutes of no one coming to our table to provide service. I visit this hotel every year and this year was noticeably lacking in almost every aspect.

The hotel provides umbrellas and chairs and sets them up on the beach for you. This service alone makes the hotel stay worth it but there are more to love about this location. They are walking distance to great coffee (Brick & Bell) and delicious ice cream and crepes (Scoops). Good food is within walking distance so no need to drive anymore. Such a relaxing place to stay. We enjoyed the ping pong table, jenga, corn hole and foosball table.

Our AC unit cut off and started to smell like burning as it apparently switched to heat. Other than the lost sleep the hotel was a great location.

Ocean front rooms are fantastic.

We appreciate that the property has been around for quite some time making the location ideal -beach access couldn’t be better! Some areas of the hotel show more signs of age more than others. For instance in our room there was a chair with a broken leg that was just propped back up but since we didn’t use this chair, it wasn’t an issue for us and figured the staff must have known about this too. The view was very good from our balcony and in the room the sheets and towels were crisp and clean. At reception, I asked if I could use a microwave to warm up a croissant and they kindly offered to put a microwave in our room - we really appreciated that! The outdoor property maintenance gentlemen were so polite, holding a door open for me even though they were busy doing a great job at cleaning and pruning. The staff at the beach setting up the umbrellas and chair were the best! They were always happy to help! We did not use the pool or restaurant but the staff seemed welcoming all around. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!
