This property is under renovation through 7/2027. They should not be booking rooms during the renovation. It is loud and inconvenient. You won’t be opening windows or sitting on you patio.

The properties location and once the hotel is completely finished, it will be beautiful I wasn’t told that there were going to be weddings ALL weekend prior to my stay so they put us on the fourth floor, which is located right above the roof on the rooftop where I couldn’t sit out on my balcony because there’s wedding guests, looking down, for three night until 10 pm music stopped and dancing/banging then they had to load out the wedding and the scraping of the chairs on the rooftop over our bed room was very uncomfortable when trying to sleep . I was staying in an ocean view room shower head wasn’t great. Right next to where the construction zone started and on Monday luckily the last day they had work going on which is fine but it was tough stay .

Honestly the worst place we could have picked. No warning about the like 7 flights of stairs from the office to our dated rooms. The AC units in both rooms had visible mold growing in them. The sheets felt moist. A worker entered the room while my daughters were changing. The sliding doors in my parents room were left unlocked. No screens on any of the sliding doors so we couldn’t keep those open for air. The tiny lot for the terrace rooms has nowhere near enough parking spaces which is ridiculous as we’re charged per car to park there. The entrance to that lot is on the opposite side of the property back up the hill & is incredibly narrow. My father’s truck sustained damage entering that lot because of an open electrical box we could not see from the car. The only ice machine is in the lobby. Had to drive all the way back to valet & walk all the way back up to our rooms to park our car. I was attending a wedding & my dress got caught on the pointed handle of a drawer & ripped. My older daughter refused to sleep in the bed because of how the sheets felt she slept on the couch. Only thing offered for our experience was comped parking. For what we paid staying right by the water just absolutely not worth it. Other family members stayed at The Empress down the street for the same price & had a much better experience. Do not rent here without calling ahead to validate improvements on everything I just mentioned. Don’t rent the Terrace rooms. Better yet stay elsewhere.

Beautiful view but awful help to the town. Climb a steep hill or walk a million stairs, or you could wait 20 minutes for their tiny elevator with terrible service with no access to the street above. :(

Best location, right across street from the cove!

Clean. Location The remodeling, the pool, the parking (our daughter came to pick us up and was there for less than 20 minutes. That cost us $16.00. Ridiculous.

Location … but very hot in living room upstairs and kitchen downstairs … needs portable air conditioner if needed…smells so muggy inside with very very old and stained couches … needs more furnitures upstairs … Oh it’s all said above …. Very old furnitures … seems lik in the 1660s stained and dirty

Location is excellent. pool and spa. Warm pool water and large spa. Housekeeping was helpful when asked. Checkout was very easy. Thin walls, construction, no parking had to use valet (long wait time on car retrieval) person at check in was impersonal. No chair in room. Floor needed to be swept.

We got a room that said “No view”. I figured that meant no view of the ocean. There was only a window facing the hallway. People walking by to get to their rooms. It was so odd.

The hotel was beautiful and in a perfect location, but you can hear everything in the rooms next door. Guests were extremely loud and kept slamming doors. It was hard sleeping. We had to call the front desk twice due to loud guest in the middle of the night.

We recently stayed at La Jolla Cove as our daughter was getting married at their roof top bar. Wedding was incredible, however, the hotel is under major renovation which was not disclosed until months after the wedding was booked. The drive up to the hotel partially covered in scaffolding and the entry to the hotel with ongoing construction definitely took away from the overall wedding experience. With that being said, the wedding company(not the hotel) provided a discount. Our room (602), was a balcony room and the view was absolutely fabulous. The room which had already been renovated was fine. It was a very large room, but other than the size and view it was nothing special. We booked the room, not knowing about the projected renovation. We booked a balcony room with a view that had previously been renovated as we heard that the rooms that had not been renovated were not acceptable. Our daughter visited the hotel after the renovation began and found out that our room was right next door to the renovation, so we called to change rooms. To change rooms, it was a cost of $150 per night for a similar room, not next to the construction. When we booked the room there were two options for parking which included self parking at $25 per night and valet at $40 per night. With the renovation, the self parking option was removed, which made obtaining your car when needed a very timely process. Desk staff was not particularly friendly or helpful, but housekeeping was great.

It was completely under reconstruction when I got there. A royal complete mess, front, sides and rear.

Worst hotel experience I’ve had. Did not get the room I booked and was put in an old, dirty room with no AC. Valet parking is required by the hotel but they ran out of spots—we were left with no parking. Construction is going on every day, making movement around the hotel challenging (lots of stairs.) I was moved to another “renovated” room but it was smaller than the room I booked but was charged the same price as my initial reservation cost. In this room, there were no window coverings, the shower didn’t drain. Until the construction is complete, stay somewhere else.

So overall, I like this property. Yes there is construction in major renovation of the hotel. We stayed in the terrace room, which was a cute little bungalow with a patio. It was missing a mini fridge and a few trash cans. What I did not like about this property is anytime we wanted to go anywhere we had to go up or down some serious staircases. It does state that in the listing as staircase only from the parking lot, but does not state staircase only to everywhere, example lobby, down to the main road, beach. Possibly when the renovation is done they’ll be another way to get around the property. What I didn’t understand is the pool towels were in the lobby and not by the pool. The pool was directly below our little Casita, but if we need a towel, we had to go down 150 steps, around construction & back up. I’m sure they would’ve brought us a towel, but it just seemed kind of strange. Also near the Casitas, there was no ice machine and the lack of a refrigerator forced us to use an ice chest. Again, just minor things but things that were kind of annoying. After a two day stay and going up and down those stairs constantly I can say I did get a good workout, but it also was exhausting.

Property is under construction. It was beautiful and I can’t wait to return when it’s completed! Great location!!

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Had a wonderful view of ocean and room was great. Lot of renovations going on an access to pool and elevators single elevatorsa challenge. When those projects are completed it will be 5 stars for everything

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Great location. Was during construction, so it was dusty and noisy! But everything worked out!

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

The room was not throughly cleaned. I noticed toothpaste in one of the sinks & no soap.

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Its a top notch location We stayed here about 5 years ago and construction was going on then. So I was not aware that it would still be going on.
