Staff at the reception were nice Deeply disappointing experience for what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. The bar area was basically all reserved for groups/families only — despite multiple free tables . I sat down to have a beer but was asked to stand up. What followed was frankly farcical, it took four members of staff to serve me a single lager. One walked me to the bar, one took the order, one charged me, and then staff spent 15 minutes arguing amongst themselves about who would actually pour the beer. To his credit, one of the bar staff eventually stepped in to complain on my behalf. So, I was forced to eat in my room, a £23 burger and coke became £39 after tray tax, service charge and VAT — charges not made clear on the menu. When it arrived it was cold. Shocking value for money. The single room itself was tiny and basic for £275 per night, and the bathroom door opened directly onto the bed leaving unpleasant smells lingering throughout the room. The bathroom also flooded every time I had a shower. At a budget hotel this would be frustrating. At a property billing itself as 5 star it is completely unacceptable — the experience was closer to 1 star in every regard. To be fair - I was unfortunate because there was a wedding on and staff clearly wanted to ensure those guests were well catered for rather than a solo traveller. On a different day in a different room it maybe could have been a better experience.
