Hostal Oriente

My room was small. Bathroom seemed new very contemporary. AC was sufficient. Desk clerk very friendly and helpful. She tried to explain tv. She was in my room and she could not figure it out. She offered another room but I was leaving next morning. No frig, device to heat water. Basic room Booking needs to streamline responding to host emails. I have responded to host emails and they are always UNDELIVERED. Getting in touch with Booking is extremely cumbersome. So many categories, asking for information that they already have. The reply box timed out. Start over. Very frustrating. Recently I paid a cab 17 Euro because my message was UNDELIVERED!

Room was bigger than we were expecting. Bathroom was large, except for the shower. Great location--we were able to walk everywhere. The bed here was the most comfortable of all 6 of the places we stayed on our trip. Staff were on site 24hrs. There was fruit available each day. Pay for coffee machine available on the floor lobby. Didn't use it as there were a ton of restaurants everywhere. It was in the city center so you should expect some street noise for a street side room with windows.

The staff was very kind and very helpful. This was the highlight of my stay. Location is excellent. Despite being very centric, the property was very quiet and calm. The bed was comfy, bathroom was very comfortable and had a good size. It's a good value for money in comparison with other accommodations in that same area. I would have liked a minibar in the room, and a more comfortable chair. Maybe it's not the ideal setup if you have you work an entire day from the hotel room.

This is one of our regular stays in Madrid. It's next to the Opera metro station, which is ideal if you travel with a lot of luggage. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet, and you can choose a balcony room if you want to look out over the square. Wifi was too slow for a video call in the room that we booked, but there is a nice lobby area on the second floor that has a good connection if you need it

Fantastic location right in the heart of Madrid. Everything is within walking distance – Gran Vía, the Royal Palace, shopping, restaurants, and major attractions – so there is hardly any need for public transport. If needed, the metro station is just a few steps away. The area is lively and busy until late at night, but despite the crowds, it was not a problem for sleeping. A great choice for anyone wanting to explore Madrid on foot. Staff was really friendly.

Location A little pricey for a very small room. My friends had a bigger room with a terrace and a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge 2 minutes away on a quieter street booked around the same time for the same days and paid the same or a little less

I would like to report the extremely unpleasant experience I had during my stay at Hostal Oriente. Unfortunately, my flight was delayed by 28 hours and 30 minutes. In advance, I informed the hostel about the situation and sent the new itinerary as requested, attaching the proof by email. Despite this, upon arriving on March 21, 2026, I was surprised to find that the nightly rate for March 20, 2026, had already been charged. I only noticed this charge when I saw that the amount paid on-site was lower, and when I inquired, I was informed that the first night had already been charged. The receptionist rudely commented that “it’s not the hotel’s problem that the flight was changed.” I understand that the delay was not the hotel’s fault, but I expected, at the very least, professional and empathetic treatment given the circumstances. Upon entering the room, I noticed that the space did not meet my needs: the bathroom was so small that it was practically impossible to take a shower without hitting oneself; the sink caused water to spill on the floor and my clothes; and the toilet was partially located under the sink. I then requested to cancel the stay, but I was met with mockery: the receptionist laughed and said that “I had chosen the room, so they would not refund the money, and that I could upgrade to another room, but there would be no refund.” I asked to speak with the manager or owner, but I was informed that he was on vacation. Given the situation, I temporarily accepted staying in the room, hoping to get some rest. However, during the night, it was impossible to sleep due to constant noise — loud conversations from other guests, arguments, and people talking on the phone. Recordings confirm the level of noise. In the morning, I went back to the reception to inform them that I could not stay, as the premises did not provide minimum conditions for rest. Once again, I was met with disregard: the receptionist took my card and simply shrugged, showing no attention or solution. As a result, I lost a total of €441: €120 for the first night charged in advance and €321 paid in person. More than the financial loss, what made the experience so unsatisfactory was the extremely unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of the staff. Therefore, I request that Booking review this situation and consider the full refund of the amounts charged incorrectly, charging only for the night I was actually forced to stay at the property.

Location Price

Location is perfect. Nice professional staff. Clean room. The prices have gone up since my stay at Hostal Oriente last year. I may not be able to afford staying here on my next visit to Madrid in the autumn of this year.

Very bare minimum for the price

The location is great! Staff always is willing to help you and cleaning always on point! Two days in a row the keys had a problem that let us out but they always helped us without hesitation

Location is fantastic, walking distance to royal place! lots of restaurants and shopping area, with lovely and accessible location to everything. I love it. single room is so small! but it is fit for a short stay.

Great location and staff were very pleasant. The second room I stayed in when my girlfriend arrived, was much nicer than the first room I stayed in. The first room I stayed in was very small and the view out the window was unattractive of the interior Courtyard. I did ask for a quiet room, though. And at least it was sufficient.
