Hostal San Isidro

So Booking recommended this place for me specifically when I searched up Madrid hotels, which was weird based on my past choices.. My mistake was not noticing the price was for five nights which explains why it proved unsuitable. So that is on Booking. BUT there were issues. There was a mattress standing in the long narrow hallway and our room was at the end. No fire exit that I could see. the room itself looked into the internal courtyard which seemed airless. The room itself had no air con, just a fan, and there was plaster hanging from the ceiling over one of the beds. We left immediately and found another hotel. Basic air conditioning, mattress removed from hallway. I presume that is illegal in Spain, it is in North America generally . There seemed to be a lack of a fire exit proximate to the room located at the end of a long hallway. Plaster hanging over the bed also just plain wrong. That can't be legal either.

Staff

Staff was nice and helpful. Rooms were clean. Beds were very comfortable. Location was great for walking to several of the major sites in Madrid as well as lots of choices for food. This is in a district with a lot of noise on the street (mostly people hanging out and talking outside restaurants, including late into the night). We knew this and brought earplugs and had no problem sleeping. Bring earplugs. Water temperature in the shower was a bit unpredictable. Sometimes no hot water and sometimes it was hard to get water that wasn't TOO hot. We managed, but if the property wants to make an improvement, that would be something to address.

The location was perfect. It was a bit cramps but for two people it was manageable.

The location was perfect. When I was going down the stairs, the lighting was so dim that I couldn't see properly. I fell and hurt my ankle. I suggest brightening the lighting to avoid accidents.

Great location. All really clean. Reception staff good. Room was very small.

The location close to main attractions. Very helpful hostess. The location on a busy street that is noisy until the early hours of the morning.

The rooms were secure and the location was awesome. Double windows helped with the noise on the street. The walls were thin and my neighbor was not in his room to turn off his 6:45am alarm clock, so it ran until it lost power.

Location was right in the city centre, the staff spoke English and there was an option of luggage storage after check out.

The location is superb, just 5 minutes walking from Puerta del Sol. The beds are comfortable. It was noisy because of the bars on the street, and the cleanliness could be better (we found pieces of nachos on the floor). Also, the shower is complicated to use because the hot water goes on and off constantly.

Cheap toilet paper and no shampoo as well as very cheap bed sheets which weren't the nicest. The air conditioning is set on some sort of timer you can't cancel it works well at night but it's unbearable during the day. Not a place for kids or if you plan on staying in, but if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep it's perfect
