Breakfast was the best part of this Hotel information was lacking, nothing in room to tell you about the facilities air con, tv etc There was no sign Restaurant was open for evening eating. No menus around. No signage Pool area was very small 8 in all sun beds and guests stayed all day on sun beds. Outdoor space was too 'wild'- contemporary gone mad Room was not well designed and not up to five star standard.My own bed had a slope where mattress was uncomfortable. Hotel was very far out of centre and no chance of going into city only by taxi It is a very pretty historic feel hotel but not well run or practical, but breakfast was lovely with nice service

For this place to consider itself a 5 star Hotel is a mere joke. This has to be one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Upon arrival, we found hair in our “fresh” bed, hair on our water bottle, stains on the walls that look like feces, stains in the bathroom, piles of dust, no slippers, no scales… and when you ask for them to address these issues with house keeping, nothing gets done. Instead we come back to our room unswept, crumbs left behind as if all they did was make the bed and hang up the towels. Whoever gave them the 5 star status is not considering what this hotel has become. Absolutely ridiculous. Nothing worse than a dirty stay. I will be following up with a formal complaint.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and property on a quiet but centrally located Porto street. Deserves it's 5 star rating. Staff went beyond the basics; even went to a nearby store to get needed items for guests. Lively evening bar and restaurant scene. As close to a perfect hotel experience as one can get.

Friendly staff. Clean room. Good location. Swimming pool was a bit smaller than expected.

Loved everything

It's a well restored actual palace located just outside the historical old city center, and one appreciates it during breakfast - it's a real palace ballroom :-). Rooms mostly face the big inner courtyard, and it is very quiet during the night. You can get to almost any place of interest by simply walking, including the pedestrian part of Rua de Cedofeita that starts within 200m from the hotel. There is a supermarket nearby where you can get water. The hotel has a gym, but it's tiny. Rooms are designed for people who do not use a computer at all. Instead of a [tiny] work desk ours had a weird and rather useless corner couch, and a tiny round table. I had to keep my laptop on my lap while sitting on this couch, which is not the most comfortable position. The breakfast was fine, but definitely not up to the standards of a 5-star hotel. We had much better breakfast at a 3-star hotel in Lisbon :-(. The coffee was terrible, and you needed to ask the staff if you wanted anything except their horrible drip coffee. (At most hotels they have coffee machines where one can select the desired drink, and coffee is better almost everywhere).

Breakfast was amazing

Close to shops, restaurants, attractions. Beautiful gardens and quiet atmosphere, you feel like you’re tucked away from the city. Excellent room service breakfast and great restaurant. The housekeeping service wasn’t consistent. We had to ask several times for amenities that weren’t refilled. Staff interactions were inconsistent. Some staff very kind and helpful. Others were rude and condescending. We’ve never stayed at a luxury hotel before and it felt like we were treated strangely because we didn’t understand “luxury culture.” Perhaps just wasn’t the right place for us.

Location is a plus and minus. Noisy at night if room faces street with open window

The grounds were peaceful and beautifully landscaped.

Everything! Nothing not to like

When we arrived, a very helpful young man was at the gate to take us to the registration desk so we could check in. He directed my husband as to where to park, even going with him in the car instead of just leaving us with verbal directions. We were then given a tour of the property which is absolutely beautiful. Honestly that check in experience was the best we ever had. We were treated very respectfully our whole stay. Chocolates in the room, fresh water. Our room was stunning, large by Porto standards. The bedding and linens were very good quality. Even the shower was great. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and that dining room with the crystal chandeliers. The whole experience was one of the best we’ve had in any hotel we’ve been in. The ONLY thing-my bed (we had two twins pushed together)-the outer third of it sagged from repeatededly being sat on I suppose. It wasn’t enough to cause a poor sleep but it was a noticeable downside in an otherwise very upscale room.

The restaurant was disappointed

Pool area was disappointing. For the size of the hotel it should have more chairs.

The combination of the traditional styles with the new Reception area not in keeping with the grandeur of the rest of the building

The property is a renovated former castle with multiple buildings, kind staff, and a great location relative to the city. The smell. Clearly originating in the air ducts, this smell was not only impossible to avoid or get rid of, it was so bad it gave my husband and my daughter migraines and drove us crazy trying to ignore it. This place needs serious maintenance because that smell was unbearable.

Central but quiet. Boutique- not small but not a lot of rooms. Pleasant surroundings. Extremely nice staff. Nice bar and restaurant.
