Loved the historic Route 66 appeal!

This is minor, but the faucet water wasn't clear, so we didn't drink it. I'm sure it was a temp situation.

The room was clean somewhat outdated.

I perhaps did not have a room that represented the hotel as a whole. Like many nice Mexican hotels the El Rey was very nicely designed with several courtyards, a "swim club" area, and winding passageways with benches and gardened paths. But my room was off in a corner of the "Alamo plaza" which was not as nicely maintained as the rest of the grounds - it was dark and for me that area and the room felt dreary.

The retro setting is a fun entry/exit point for our time in New Mexico. The pool is kid friendly, which is great, but could have used a cleaning.

    Unique property

A very disappointing room, would not recommend.

I am giving it 4 stars because it is a clean historic motel with mostly beautiful grounds. That said, the pillows were small, lumpy, uncomfortable and cheap. Next time we stay, we will bring our own pillows.

The spa (hot tub) was lovely, however the sauna wasn't working. Guests must wait until 4 PM to check in; the front desk charges a fee to check out at noon; the cost goes up for a 1 PM checkout. They also charge a resort/amenity fee. The staff kindly provided access to the pool post-checkout; although I did not take advantage of this, the gesture was appreciated.

Our first room had a very soft bed (hard on the back) and a noisy air conditioner. We switched rooms and the new room's bed and air conditioner were good, but it was extremely noisy.

What a great hotel. I love the combination of historic charm and modern amenities. The food truck that serves as the hotel restaurant is a great idea.

Parking was an issue . A bit run down for the price.

Check - In was nice and easy. At first the room seems spacious and clean. But on further inspection, there was a dirty towel hung up and a coffee stain on the floor. Apart from that the bed was comfortable and we had a decent night sleep. I was a little bit out of town, but nothing a Uber didn’t sort out. Pool hours 8am, shame as an early riser I would have loved to be in, as we are normal on the road by 8-830ish. Also the coffee machine was unplugged and we had to move furniture to plug it into the extension block. Also the room request was for 3 adults and only one make up face cloth? Crazy and we I asked for another, just got a white one.

sq footage. the bed was great. bathroom drains took too long to empty. kitchen had no counter room. half of the light bulbs were out. mold was seen around windows (mostly outside of crank out windows). no elevators, bad for an 80 year old. dirty windows.

An older property that could use a few updates, but a really cool spot. Open courtyard area. Doesn’t feel like you are in the city. Would stay here again. Convenient location

I liked the architecture of the property, the pool, and the location to downtown. However, I didn’t like that there wasn’t a microwave provided in the room — there was a communal space that had one. Also, accessing a parking space and use for guests was bad! It seemed like some non-guests took parking spaces; and a few guests took up 1.5 to 2 parking slots; perhaps, property could manage parking space usage a bit better.

I loved this vintage but thoughtfully restored adobe motel on a main boulevard a few miles from downtown Santa Fe. My impeccably clean room had burnished tile floors, dark wood beams and mosaics inlaid in the walls. While the building has some history, all outlets and devices were modern and worked fine. The vibe is laid back and family friendly. Breakfast and dinner are provided by a food truck with New Mexican tacos and other local dishes. The staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent value and a fine way to get into Santa Fe style.
