Gideon Putnam Resort And Spa

This place was amazing the grounds were phenomenal. The only issues we had was the cable did not work in our room, the shower floor felt like it was caving in and unfortunately it smelled a little moldy in the bathrooms.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We went to a concert at SPAC and were able to walk there and back-so easy! The hotel provided a shuttle to anywhere you wanted to go, downtown or the track. We did both and they pick you up where ever you are, you do not have to go to a meeting place. Downtown had great shopping!! How convenient is that? We had the breakfast buffet-plenty to chose from and everything was delicious. We wanted to eat lunch at 2p and the restaurant was closed but they made us sandwiches at the bar. They were super delicious and so much food we didnt even need dinner! So accommodating! We had drinks at the bar and they sent the most delicious home made potato chips, we asked for a second basket, they were so good! Golf course right next to it and my husband will bring his clubs next visit. Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Lots of pillows. Easy to change the temp of the room. I would have liked larger bath towels.

The shuttle service they provide is excellent. Grounds are beautiful as it is a state park.

I never write reviews, but we stayed overnight for two days and had issues with the water flow in the bathroom sink just piddling out. When we notified the front desk they finally sent someone up when we were out. There was no notification that anyone looked at the sink until we went to use it and nothing came out. Dave from the front desk came up shortly before we were leaving for dinner reservations advising they had to shut the water off and did not have a valve to fix. We were offered a room change, but by that time we had to leave for our dinner reservation (this was Alabama weekend at the track) and had no time to change. We were leaving in the AM. We were offered free breakfast. We requested an adjustment to our bill since I had to brush my teeth and wash my face with tub water and were told no. They even charged us the "resort" fee. We have stayed here many times and each time there is a problem (one time AC broke - another time previous person's clothes in drawer). Bad management -- never again -- and had to pay in advance -- next time Holiday Inn. (There was also mold in shower)

Clean rooms, convenient to track and downtown. Bar should be open until at least 11 or 12 midnight. It's a shirt season!

Walking distance to concerts. Kind staff. Beautiful area. Definitely needs updating and room feel overly cramped. Bathroom is very small and old.

Beautiful scenery Have stayed at Gideon many years. Unfortunately now they close the bar at 10:00. Hotel is isolated which is okay except we have enjoyed a few drinks to end our evening in the past. Also gym equipment not in working order

We stayed here again as we were attending a concert at SPAC so it is very convenient. There’s parking on site which is always a benefit. The rooms are dated, they say it’s part of the ‘charm’ but I think some upgrades would be good. The towels were very thin and worn, the rooms would benefit from taking the carpet up. The bed however was VERY comfortable. The grounds of the hotel are lovely.

Beautiful property right in the middle of the park. I know they’re trying to maintain the old style type hotel but some TLC wouldn’t hurt. Bathroom was in need of some work. Other than that was a pleasant stay. Not sure will be back again soon.

Breakfast at the track has gone downhill, Have breakfast here. We only ate while on the town so can’t speak to dinner/lunch. We were only here for a short part of a trip. (2 nights) I’ll be back in the future for a longer stay.

Lots of choices for amenities but staff could not direct systematically.

Beautiful grounds! Breathtaking! But the hotel needs significant maintenance. Room had minuscule lighting except for the bathroom. Room was very small. I’m Electrical outlets didn’t work. Paint peeling on window sill. Bed was great. Dining on terrace very nice. Overall the staff made the trip decent as they were A++.
