Porth Avallen Hotel

The breakfast consisted of a choice from three plastic containers with labels stuck on the front Cornflakes, Brandflakes, Muesli. Yoghurt strawberry or mango in a bowl with ice under individual strawberry jam or marmalade coffee in jugs tinned peaches toast 1 and a half slices per person didn't try cooked breakfast which was £15 and had to be ordered by 5pm night before as did the buffet breakfast. Location and view are amazing The paint has peeled off the wall in the corner due to dampness.

The setting was absolutely beautiful and perfect Old building but it was set out nice to have breakfast sat looking at the sea amazing

The position on the cliff top over looking the sea Property condition, black mould spores in the first room I was allocated to, electrical issues in the second room, had to move to a third room. Property very tired and run down both externally and internally . One member of staff covering reception and the bar so sometimes a long wait to be served. Was verbally abused by the owner when I highlighted the concerns with the rooms. He was rude, aggressive and racist.

The location Too many stairs, the breakfast was too late in the day as we had to leave really early, plus it wasn't a cooked breakfast, it was only toast.

The breakfast was good but you can add a little more to it, eg eggs, bacon etc

Exceptional

Absolutely stunning location, the view of the bay from our large sea view room was just incredible. It is an old building, with some great period features. The downstairs reception and lounge area was very pleasant and comfortable . The gardens were pretty and looked well looked after. The staff were all lovely and helpful with the exception of what I presumed was the owner who did not make us feel welcome at all. We rather quickly nicknamed him Basil! The property and the room are looking dated and in need of some tlc. The room was clean and bedding and towels were also fresh and clean. I didn’t mind the old furniture in the room, but the sink and the bath were both cracked. The light fitting was coming away from the ceiling. There was a sign in the bathroom asking you not to use the bath due to a boiler problem , looking back at other reviews this sign has been there for at least 8 months. We were told that they were too busy for cooked breakfast so it would be continental only which was fine, but this consisted of just toast a choice of cereal and a large bowl of tinned peaches, the same peaches were put out 3days running. We ordered food one evening which took one and half hours to come out, it was poor quality and very expensive.

The location was fantastic and that was it Basil Faulty eat your heart out, because the owner of this hotel mad him look like a saint., his people skills are shocking to the point of dam right rude, our first evening there we are pretty sure he was drunk. Breakfast a continental apparently (which we should be grateful for, according to the owner) was abysmal, toast, yogurt, cereal (cornflakes, branflakes or muesli) and tinned peaches was it, no fresh fruit, pastries, cold meats, cheeses & not hot food. On one morning there was only toast, bran flakes or muesli available despite asking for the missing items to be refilled. We booked dinner for 6pm, we finally had our orders taken at 7.30pm by the owner and our food served at 8.30pm. Although the food was OK it was very over priced for what we received, combined with the service we didn't eat there again. As I have said the owner is shocking, he insisted we put our drink on our room and was not happy when some of us wanted to pay there and then, at tge end of our stay we asked to settle our bill the night before as we were going to leave early, this was a huge inconvenience to the owner who asked us why we couldn't wait until the morning,The rooms are dated and need a complete refurbishment, our bed was like sleeping on concrete while our friends room needed several repairs, there mayress was so old the called it the banana bed as it had a clear dent in the middle, when laying down there feet was almost above there head it was that bad. I can go on for hours listing all the problems with the hotel and all would of been forgivable had the owner not been rude with about as much charm, customer service as a flip flop, intact a flip flop would out class him any day of the week. I have pictures to back up the state of the rooms and I think you can gather from various other reviews the owner is the main problem . Would I stay here again? absolutely not, a night in the car is more appealing.

Location is exceptional and the reception staff were very cheerful and friendly. Breakfast was dire just cereal and yoghurt. Toast was burnt. Service was very slow. Hotel needs some TLC. It was clean and the bed was fairly comfy, however, thats about it. It feels like its still in the 1980s with the decor. Did not feel comfortable having to leave our room key on the main unmanned reception desk when we left for the evening, as it was left accessible so anyone could pick it up and enter our room.

The location and view were stunning. The staff, the room, the service, the cost. Every time we would ask for something, it would always get forgotten or they wouldn’t be able to help. Clearly the place has seen better days judging from the photos years ago they had on display.

The room had mould, I left on the first night and asked for a refund. This was refused The hotel, dirty, mouldy and should not be open due to health and safety reasons
