Hotel El Castillo de Los Locos
About Hotel El Castillo de Los Locos
This hotel is in a cliff-top castle overlooking the beach of Los Locos and the Bay of Biscay. Its headland location offers spectacular views of the sea and the dramatic coastline. The castle is just 165 ft from the lighthouse of Suances – a tranquil seaside resort on the coast of the Cantabria region. Here you will also find clean, sandy beaches and pleasant green countryside. The castle was originally built in the 19th century by the Baron of Peramola. It now contains 9 rooms designed in a unique, eclectic style, all with fantastic sea views. The area is popular among surfers and bathers for its beaches, which can be easily reached from the hotel. The Altamira Caves, 8 miles away, are famous for some of the earliest cave paintings known to man. License Number(s): G4834

awesome staff, awesome place - great view- perfect

Location Loud at night, kept waking us up. Asked for an ocean view and didn’t get one. Fire hazard due to narrow spiral staircase leading to rooms. Waitress at breakfast was great.
-
We reserved a room with partial seaview and wish we had reserved an oceanfront room because from our room the sea was at a distance and obstructed by rows od houses The spiral stairs can be difficult for people with mobility problems. No elevator.
-
Spectacular location, spacious room with amazing ocean view, good breakfast and convenient restaurant downstairs. Lucky to find parking nearby! No hotel parking.
-
The hotel itself has good vibes and a really nice terrace. It is a perfect weekend getaway. Breakfast was a bit scarce.

The room was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The very tight spiral staircase that you had to use to go up 2 flights of stairs. We reconfigured what we needed for overnight and it worked out just fine.

Gorgeous beach view and sunset, very nice staff.

The Castle is a lovely small hotel, looks a bit like a Lego castle from a distance. Some of the rooms have a fantastic sea view with beautiful sunsets, viewed through floor to ceiling windows. Located next to Los Locos Beach, accessed via a steep pathway and steps. Beaches are great and used a lot by surfers due to the perfect waves. Parking is roadside, just outside the hotel, always seems to be plenty of spaces. They accept dogs at an extra cost of 15 euros per night. Not much to dislike, you may not like the tight spiral staircase to access the rooms, there are no lifts. The toilets for the bar area are not as clean as you would expect.

Breakfast included in price and choice from varied menu was excellent Excellent forecourt overlooking beach. Excellent varied international evening menu choices. We did not realise access to rooms was via a metal spiral stairway. Not a problem for us or our dog but could be for people with heavy luggage or accessibility issues.

Fabulous location. Dog friendly. Great friendly staff. Comfortable, well appointed room. Parking is in the road so is not secure which is a concern when travelling with a car full of belongings as we were on our trip from Malaga to England. We didn’t though have any issues. We were looking for more of a restaurant to relax in after a long drive, it’s quite “snacky” food but we did enjoy what we ordered. We wonder what parking would be like in mid/high season. Our stay was 30th November and it was still busy. For the less mobile accessing the bedrooms up the spiral staircase with luggage could be an issue

Fabulous location Very dog friendly Evening meal Evening waitress Nice room Loud music audible in the bedroom all day and night until almost midnight Spiral staircase, a nightmare with a dog and bags - and worn knees! Afternoon waiting staff not good

It looked lovely. But I never got to stay in it! I was travelling solo with my elderly dog and no where on the hotel description did it say there was a spiral staircase up to the room!! The staff member managed to relocate me to a partner hotel nearby. Which was fabulous and had a lift!! Spiral staircase to access bedrooms
