Everything None

Everything was a little tight and cramped, as I later learned that's pretty par for the course in japan. A bit pricey for hostel accommodations without any special amenities attached but maybe that's just the great location tax.

Location is very convenient, few steps away from a mini market and Ueno Station. Place is also very lively.

I asked for a lower bunk bed cause im having a hard time going up and they initially confirmed that I am assigned to lower bunk but when i got there they said there is no lower bunk available.

Grids is very close to Ueno train station. Amazing price!! For ladies, they have a whole floor that is only accessible by ladies. And, everything was so clean. They even provide some nice toiletries in the bathrooms. It has a very quiet atmosphere. Worked perfectly for a one night stay in Tokyo. Beds are a little hard for my American back. ?

Location close to subway Bunk bed -public washroom- false impression that’s a as hotel - more of a hostel And not slash hotel

- Other than being near Ueno Station, there is nothing to praise. It’s not even that close - I had to walk about 700m every day to reach Ameyoko or the station because there’s nothing to eat nearby. When you’re tired, this walk feels very long. - I requested a lower bed but didn’t get one. Staff said it was occupied, but I saw it empty until the next day, and those guests stayed only a short time. I stayed 4 days but had to climb up and down. I had informed them in advance that my father is 65, yet they still assigned an upper bunk. This felt very inconsiderate. The staff’s explanation was unclear and unconvincing. They said the bed was reserved, but I had also booked and checked in earlier. - The washroom/dressing area was messy, not cleaned regularly, with trash and bad smells. Very unpleasant. - There are no clear rules about keeping quiet, both in the room and hallway. Some groups were very noisy at 2-3 AM. - They changed the bedsheets without notice. I had many personal items on the bed and did not like this. My jacket was dropped on the floor and not picked up. Even in a female room, staff can be male, so entering without notice felt disrespectful. Overall, I would not stay here again.

I stayed at Grids Tokyo Ueno Hotel & Hostel, and while the location was excellent, the overall experience was fairly average. The biggest advantage is the proximity to Ueno Station. Being right next to the train station is incredibly convenient, especially if you’re traveling with heavy luggage. I was carrying a snowboard, so not having to walk far was a huge plus. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the hostel itself. My bed was quite dusty, as though the storage shelf and banisters hadn’t been wiped down in a while. The bathrooms were awkward and small, and the trash bins often seemed to be overflowing. The showers also lacked basic practicality — there was no proper place to hang toiletries or a towel, which made things inconvenient. The common area felt somewhat sterile and a bit grubby, rather than inviting, and the staff came across as less friendly than at other places I’ve stayed. In the end, it served its purpose for a short stay, but with so many more character-filled and welcoming accommodations in Tokyo, I personally wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
