Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku

My stay at Onsen Ryokan Yuen was highly enjoyable, offering a great balance of traditional Japanese atmosphere and modern comfort. While the facilities were excellent, a highlight of my trip was meeting a staff member named Mr. Yu on my final day. Even though we only connected at the end of my stay, he made a real difference. As a European traveler, I appreciated that he speaks fluent German, English, and Japanese, and clearly understands European culture. Being an athlete himself, he noticed my interest in health and wellness and asked me about my fitness lifestyle. This shared connection and his genuine conversation made my stay feel much more personal and meaningful. I highly recommend this ryokan, and want to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Yu for his hospitality. The restaurant is under construction. Looking forward to coming back once this is completed.

Fabulous property - super clean, modern but with a distinctly Japanese feel. The onsen was amazing and the staff super kind and helpful. Rooms are not large which is typical of Tokyo but have everything you need.

Staff welcomed us very warmly. Room was bigger than we expected, with a shower, toilet, desk area, and of course the bed. We also got a discount for "construction" but we never heard any construction, so huge bonus there. The whole building seems new, so everything is fresh and modern. It's a bit far from Shinjuku station (15 minutes on foot), but the price was right and there are other stations closer.

Loved this hotel. The onsen was so wonderful. The view from our room was spectacular, and the bed was very comfy. The Japanese breakfast at the hotel was one of my favorite meals of the trip. Loved having a 7/11 right across the street for early morning coffee needs. The location is a bit of a walk from Shinjuku and transit, but it’s in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Having to walk 10-15 minutes to the nearest transit station was a bit of a convenience.

Best place to stay in Shinjuku! The staff was fabulous, the Onsen was a peaceful escape in the business of the city, the location was super convenient and we will definitely return on our next visit to Tokyo!

Room size was a bit tight with our small luggage.lighting was dark.

We had a room that slept 4 and it felt spacious, the amenities were high quality and sustainably sourced, the onsen had a beautiful view of Shinjuku! The staff were very pleasant and bilingual. I would highly recommend this Ryokan

Clean, close to central area of Tokyo but in a quiet area. Loved the amenities at the property and the staff were all very kind

The view from the onsen on the 18th floor was nice. Free ice cream was a nice perk. Far and away the worst hotel we stayed in and worst value during our entire three week trip in Japan. Rooms were smaller than average even compared to other stays in Tokyo. No room safe, no ability to control lights other than from beds which were on floor, fridge wasn’t cold, shower was smaller than normal, no space for bags, so closet, bright lights outside window, shades for window inadequate, loud hallways and noise between floors. Location isn’t the best and you need to walk 10-12 minutes to closet station. Onsen was worse than other hotel chains like Mitsui Garden (which is cheaper, better locations, and better equipped rooms). Staff was less friendly than every other stay. Rooms were pretty beat up (we had a randomly screw sticking out of wall where I assumed a picture or wall vase used to be).

The rooms were quite small.

The place was an oasis in the middle of a bustling city. Close enough to step into shinjuku and experience tokyo for what it has to offer, but the ambiance immediately slows you down from the hectic city atmosphere. The staff all spoke English one way or another and its truly a getaway for anyone wanting some downtime

Super close to all the action but in quiet neighborhood off to the side, relaxing place to hide out after busy days in Tokyo I didn’t notice the size of the room when I booked it, I should have upgraded
