Location, Italy feel Paying for things in the refrigerator, thought it was complementary seeing the price of the room was right at 200.00 for one night on a Monday.

They demanded private information from me to check in, like card information including CVV. Same happen to other visitors. They wrote it down, and told me they will remove it - they didn't. Very scammy.

I had a wonderful stay at the Carlton Hotel. What I appreciated most was its excellent location. Being close to the mainland made getting around incredibly convenient, with both the train station and bus terminal just a short walk away. It was the perfect base for exploring Venice and the surrounding areas. The Front Desk team was exceptional throughout my stay. They were warm, welcoming, and professional, and I truly appreciated the complimentary room upgrade, which made my experience even more memorable. The room itself was a highlight of the stay. It beautifully captured the charm and elegance of traditional Venetian style, making me feel fully immersed in the city’s unique atmosphere. It was a wonderful blend of comfort, character, and authenticity. I genuinely have no complaints about the hotel itself. Everything about the property met, and even exceeded, my expectations. The only disappointing part of our stay was our experience at La Cupola Restaurant on the evening of 1 July 2026. It was my best friend’s birthday, and we had originally planned to celebrate at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. Unfortunately, heavy rain forced its closure, so at around 9:15 PM we decided to have a light dinner at La Cupola instead. Since the dining area had only two occupied tables while the bar was the only busy section, we were looking forward to a quiet and relaxing evening. However, shortly after we were seated, a waiter named Akram approached us and asked whether we were there for dinner. When we replied that we were, he rather abruptly told us that the kitchen was closed. This was confusing, as the restaurant’s advertised closing time was 10:00 PM and the bar closed at 11:00 PM. His tone and manner came across as dismissive and unwelcoming, leaving us feeling embarrassed and as though we were being asked to leave. Rather than argue, we quietly moved to the bar area instead. Unfortunately, the experience continued. While we were seated at the bar, Akram walked past us several times without acknowledging us or asking if we wished to order drinks. In the end, my friend—the birthday celebrant—had to approach the bartender herself to place our order. Thankfully, the bartender and a wonderful Filipino waiter completely turned the evening around. The bartender kindly accommodated our request for a serving of tiramisu so we could still celebrate my friend’s birthday, and the Filipino waiter thoughtfully provided a candle for us. Their genuine kindness, warmth, and willingness to go the extra mile created a memorable birthday moment despite the disappointing start.

The staff wasn’t very friendly. The rooms were very small for a family. There wasn’t any coffee machine and iron in the room and there were no locks on the bathroom doors.

  • Engine customer Jul 2026

Perfect location - easy access to transportation and walking distance to historical sites and eateries.

The room was very basic and did not represent value for the price I paid. Check-in was fine and the staff were happy to help us. I understand that the building was very old but still the room we were in lacked class. I did not like the bed, far to hard. The room decorations were very tired and the overall lighting in the room did nothing to highlight the so called French decor. I was trying to make this one night stay an attractive place for my wife and I before we returned home. It turned out to be mediocre, not good and not bad.

The location close to the Santa Lucia train station was paramount. Snafus we encountered were quickly resolved by the check in staff. Walking out to the sights along the Grand Canal was wonderful. The included breakfast selections were wide and very substantial; the breakfast area was well staffed and cared for. There are signs posted that the hotel is undergoing improvements which are needed. While clean, the rooms and bathroom fixtures need updating. An updating of hallway carpeting would be a plus. Getting luggage from the train station across the canal bridge to the hotel is a challenge without hiring one of many porters congregating around the station and bridge. An added plus would be for the hotel itself to contract with these providers and offer this service to guests when they reserve rooms. This would alleviate the task of choosing whether to go it alone or hire a porter especially after an already long flight or train ride.

Location is perfect, close to main water bus station…it is good value for nice Venetian hotel. In front of hotel is gondola station where you can take a ride

    n/a- met expectations

  • Engine customer Jun 2026

Comfortable bed. Updated bathroom. Friendly staff. The hotel looked dated and not four star. Arriving at the front of the hotel it was drab and colorless. Plants in the planters outside of balconies and on tables at the front would have helped. Carpets were old and looked grubby. The breakfast area was tucked away inside with no windows. The bedroom furniture was basic, a small wardrobe and no drawers to put clothes away. The hotel has seen better days. Note that the hotel is a good 1/2 hour away from main areas of the island, so expect lots of walking!

Convenient location. Restaurant was excellent. Rooms are extremely dated. The balcony room I booked was just a window which wouldn’t close in the summer heat.

    Nothing, everything was disgusting Nothing
