There was a persistent urine smell coming from the bathroom sink throughout my stay. I reported it to the staff, and while they sprayed an air freshener, the effect lasted only about three hours before the odor returned. The underlying issue was never resolved. The hot spring itself was enjoyable, but it was difficult to fully relax because every time I returned to the room, the unpleasant smell was still there. Since the bathroom is such an important part of the overall experience at a hot spring hotel, this significantly affected my stay. At checkout, the staff apologized and gave me a jam gift set as a gesture of goodwill, which I appreciated. However, I do not feel that this adequately made up for the inconvenience. I hope the hotel addresses this issue so future guests can enjoy the experience without the same problem.

Property is clean and staff are friendly.

Bettei Itsuki truly exceeded my expectations. Room: The accommodation was spacious, impeccably clean, and equipped with comfortable beds. The highlight was undoubtedly the two private onsens. While the indoor bath was excellent, the outdoor onsen—set in a rustic hut—was a delightful surprise, atmospheric and memorable. Cuisine: Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Dinner was served kaiseki style, beautifully presented with portions that felt just right. Breakfast was equally thoughtful, with generous servings that left me satisfied. Service: The staff struck the perfect balance of friendliness and attentiveness, offering just the right amount of guidance. As a solo traveler, I appreciated how welcome they made me feel, especially since many onsen ryokans primarily cater to couples or groups. I was so impressed that I found myself enthusiastically recommending Bettei Itsuki to family and friends, even creating a video reel to share—something I rarely do for other stays. This is a place I would gladly return to on any future visit to Yufuin.

A modern approach to a traditional ryokan, focusing on a home-like experience, offering private stays suitable for a family or couples Nothing

Peaceful ambience for a perfect getaway. Super polite staff and great value dinner and breakfast

It is a bit far from the train station, but the hotel provides free taxi for check-in and check-out. It is approximately 25-30 minutes walk to the station where most tourists gather.

Onsen and especially service and hospitality were outstanding.

Exceptional

Location. Size of the rooms. Friendly staff. The property is quite old and has not been maintained to the standards it should have.

Too many things we like: The villa concept, the beautiful landscaping, the breakfast spread, the dinner spread, the yukata, the hot bath both indoor and outdoor, the proximity to nature, the attentive staff …….. None

The room is big, dinner and breakfast exceed our expectations. Highly recommend this hotel. However when you book with Booking.com, if you have any complaint to them or to the hotel, they will tell you it is a partner offer and no survey can be done and they can’t do anything, they will give you the hotel’s number and tell you to contact the hotel directly, this is my experience when booking Yufuin Waremokou thru Booking.com. So be aware because you never know if it is a partner offer.

An absolutely beautiful ryokan! You get your very own house, outfitted with 2 bathes (one indoor and one outdoor), a changing room, and spacious living room and bedrooms! The mini-fridge also came with complimentary soft drinks and alcohol! The staff were also extremely welcoming, and the half-board meals (which had free-flow drinks/alcohol) were aesthetically beautiful and delicious at the same time! They also offered alternative meals for my family members that had restrictive diets, which I think is really sweet! The ryokan is located a little far from the main street, so driving here is recommended as they offer free parking for guests (first-come-first-service). Being away from the main street and the tourist foot-traffic also makes this ryokan a very peaceful place to stroll about, with a quaint pastry shop and carpentry shop near its vicinity :) Although they do not have coin laundries, there is a coin laundry outlet just behind the ryokan! And it is also a 8~10 minutes walk to Kinrin Lake! Nothing!
