The location is great. The stuff is very warm and welcoming. Offering their help in anything needed We took the small room as the bigger ones weren't available. This room was way too small for 2 people. Actually even for one it wasn't convenient as it was even hard to wash your face without getting nocked by a shelf... I didn't see the bigger rooms, but I am sure they are nicer and worth booking and the place is beautiful

Casa La Joya has so much potential. The rooms have the potential to be beautiful but it was badly squandered by disrepair and half hazard upkeep. The view from the balcony was amazing. The sitting area by the dock was a nice touch as well. The room itself was dirty. The coffee maker had sitting water in it that was turning green. The kayaks had no seats in them. The dock had 2 chained chairs and only one hammock even though there were spots for 2 more hammocks. If you have mobility issues, be forewarned that you have to climb up some steep stairs. I understand why the majority of reviews are either 1 star or 5. The place has so much potential that is lost by extremely poor management.

The hotel was really quiet and kind of isolated which was nice. They had kayaks and a SUP that you can take. Its really ran down hotel. Not really maintained. Its a shame because the part by the lagoon is really nice and enjoyable. At least our room was really old and curtains full of holes and dirty. Prices are expensive in bacalar in general but i really dont feel the price reflects what you get. If i paid less it would be okay bit this was the most expensive hotel in my mexico trip and i stayed in tow 4* hotels and in 6 different cities.

They don’t offer breakfast. I don’t like the location. I just don’t like the location.

There was a lagoon at the front of the property. Everything could have been better! There were noisy neighbours, the bathroom made no sense (ex. There was a shelve right over the sink making the sink hard to access), I was quoted one price on Bookings but was charged more, the photos did not match reality at all, and make sure you have good tires if you’re driving there as the road to the hotel is very rough with lots of pot holes and unpaved.

The location is great, I had room with lake view and the view was truly fabulous. Hammocks by the lake, kayaks available for use. The area is very peaceful and you can enjoy the beautiful view from your room, from your balcony as well as from the area of the hotel. It was pretty easy to find, I used google maps. The host was very nice and gave us a bottle of red wine. Wi-fi and Netflix was working. The reason I booked this hotel was because of the bath - that, supposedly, I wanted to take while enjoying the view. But it was not possible since the water was barely warm and definitely not warm enough to actually want to be in that bubble bath. Extremely disappointing, since this was the reason for me to choose this hotel. It was a bit cold because it was raining so I hoped to at least take a hot shower, which was not possible either - the water was barely warm, all 3 days during our stay. I mentioned it to the lady at the reception and she said that she "sent a request". But the water issue never changed during the entire stay. For the first time in my life I've seen a hotel that costs over $100/ day but doesn't even provide shampoo. There was nothing to use to fill the bath with, nor to wash the hair. Only liquid soap. I stayed in many hotels including cheap hostels, and even they usually provide at least a small bottle of shampoo. The floor feels cold, so in order not to get sick, I had to wear my outside flip flops, which I normally don't do inside. For this amount of money, I definitely expected a slightly better experience, if you're willing to pay this amount, I recommend you to choose another hotel so you won't ruin your Bacalar experience which is such a beautiful place.

Room was decently cleaned We were there only for one night, once we got there the staff was ok, we showed them the reservation and they took us the the room that was advertised in the web, the guy said the owner wasn't there but he kindly took us to the room, it had been a long day since we drove from playa del Carmen, after a shower we decided to got to bed, at about 11 pm the owner arrived and didn't hesitate on coming over to the room and knocking on the door saying that that wasn't the room we had booked , didn't even explained why he just wanted us to pay an extra $1000 pesos for the room arguing that the room we had book was a garden view and not a lake view ( we didn't even notice there being a guarden in the property), he didn't even offer to move us to the original room, he only cared about the money, we were annoyed about the action but at that point we just said to charge it to the card, after that bitter moment we were finally ready to call it a day, but the guy came back 15 min after , called me to my phone, knocked on the door like a lunatic, we just stood there for one night.

Nothing It’s a house in very poor condition

The location for sure, the view is amazing. The room is cozy, clean, free paddle board and hammocks. Very relaxing! The workers are friendly! The shower takes a little long to warm up, and the pressure is weak, but we are guessing this is just because of the proximity to the lake. The rate per night it’s not cheap, so not having shampoo in the bathroom was a disappointment. A lobby and breakfast could have been nice as well. Our friends stay in another place, which was a third of the price with breakfast included and plenty of shampoo. Lol. Obviously you pay for the spectacular view, and is worth it. Despite the lack of shampoo and breakfast, the property is superb!

Spacious, cool, private cabana. It was perfect. Manuel was a joy and couldn’t do enough for us. Use of kayaks was a real plus. We had the most relaxing time here.

Beautiful location! Kayaks to use for free and hammocks etc N/A

- Lagoon access - The guard was trying to find a solution but very sorry about the cleanliness of the room - We found bed bugs in the bed !!! - The mattress was protected with only a very thin cover sheet, no protection sheet - the sink was so small that it was impossible to rinse your face - Free and open electrical cables - The shower drain was blocked so the « bathroom »(if we still can call it a bathroom) turned to a swimming pool - The room was not clean at all, a LOT of rust everywhere - The entrance door almost stays between your hands when you open it - The room « Double room deluxe - Garden view » is in front of the host desk and the entrance, absolutely no garden The room is not clean at all and not maintained, the owner just doesn’t care of his customers and said « these are details », but they are not at all, the room needs to be reworked, the pictures from booking are very old and the room not maintained. The guard proposed us another room for only 1 night (we had booked 2 night) that we refused because of the bed bugs. The owner shows no respect to his customers, no refund was proposed, we did not spend 1 night because of the conditions of the room.

We stayed in the suite with lakeview and a balcony for two nights. The view on the lagoon was very nice. The boat trip was unforgettable. Nevertheless, we wouldn't come here again as our nights were really sleepless. We had an ant trail in the room and on the balcony as well as two cockroaches and all kinds of animals like spiders in our room. The air in the room was also very, very stuffy. Another negative point was the location as you were very far from the centre and there was no breakfast or dinner included so you always had to take a taxi to get anything. The manager was friendly when we met him but we only saw him once and the other two staff women didn't understand English. For a trip to Bacalar, we would recommend a hotel near the centre, close to restaurants such as la playita.

Location on the lagoon. Personal service. Availability of canoes and paddle board. Hammock at the water on the jetty. Beautiful. Mosquitoes in the room when we arrived. Staff took care of it. Dirt road leading to the property.
