Beautiful property. Helpful stuff. Old world charm.

Rough checking in and checking out

Excellent maintenance and outside lawn and trees. Outdoor benches and walking trail around the property is excellent

At check-in, we were told we had been upgraded to a Queen Suite bc the Deluxe Room w/ Bay View that I had booked was no longer available. We checked in after dark, so I didn’t see much that night. The next morning, I opened the windows and saw the beautiful view. Not. I really appreciate the history of the Claremont. Even before I looked it up, I told my husband it felt like a place that would have been the place to be in the 1930s. It definitely has that old-fashioned, grand-hotel feel, almost like stepping back in time. Unfortunately, the room felt more old than historic. Pros Gorgeous location Exceptional service Beautiful, spacious marble bathroom Great old-fashioned, historic atmosphere Cons Room was musty and had a stale cigarette smoke smell Thick, tired carpeting that could use a refresh Mildew in the corners of the shower Stained carpet in the check-in area The room we received was not the room I booked, the “upgrade” didn’t feel like one. Overall, I felt the hotel was overpriced for the condition of the room. I can see how grand this property WAS, and I really wanted to love it. Sadly, I left feeling that the Claremont has seen better days.

Classic property. Very "old school" and elegant. Very limited view. Roof and HVAC equipment were the extent of my view.

Lighting in room 506 is not good so I could not really tell if it was clean or not. A comfortable chair for sitting by the window would have been nice for reading, etc. Amenities provided were very well thought out and we appreciated the quality. Hot water recirculation system would have saved a lot of water that went down the drain to get hot water.

I loved the pool and gym

We LOVED our stay here! The staff were exceptional! Not just friendly and helpful, but exceptional in their service, enthusiasm and hospitality. We didn’t love the room we were assigned because it was very small and the “view” was a tiny window. Not exactly what we hoped for from a beautiful place like this. We went to the front desk, did not complain at all, but just asked if they had any upgrades, something with a better view. The staff person was so kind and gave us a different room that was absolutely outstanding. We ordered room service and the food was excellent! Everything about our stay was magically beautiful! We will be back.

Everyone on staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Our TV wasn’t working right but was fixed within minutes. I would suggest using all the amenities, we had so much fun! My daughter is moving to attend grad school so it was our last chance together to have fun for a while.

Historical building with lots of grandeur! Unique location in a classic residential area. Outdoor pools, tennis courts, great restaurant ( breakfast was great staff was very nice ) with phenomenal views. Architecturally it's very stunning! The Parking lot has a confusing pay system. The inside decor does not match the style of building (artwork in the lobby and the guest rooms not right for a historical hotel). The food at the outdoor swimming pool needs better attention.

Loved going back to where we spend our honeymoon 38 years ago.
-
LOVE this majestic hotel: the restaurant, coffee shop and club house for workouts are perfect and walkable to great bakery, Peet's and College Ave, where there's everything that you need from laundry to wine to a movie theater
-
I love the plants on the table throughout the hallways.

The room was spotless, staff was very helpful and kind. The pool is beautiful the gym is great. The hotel location is perfect, quiet yet an easy walk to campus and the Rockridge area in Oakland. There’s a great bakery and Peet’s coffee just across the street from the hotel. Always a pleasure staying here, a wonderful resort like experience unmatched in the Bay Area.

View is great from restaurant! Location was great for our purpose of going to the Greek Theatre. Old classic design is nice. Hotel room view was terrible. Appears using a 3rd party to book room gets you stuck with worst room available. The layout of the hotel is ridiculous, needing to go down to go up in certain parts of the hotel.

We got food poisoning at the restaurant and were super bummed no one followed up to learn about what happened. Lovey historic property w nice front line employees who are very kind and have tenure. They genuinely care about guests and each other. Management, not so much. There was a massive group/convention in the weekend we visited and they took over, left trash everywhere, their kids were super loud and unsupervised and that was ok w management too. We won’t be back!

Lovely visit to the Claremont. Quick check and friendly staff. Limewood restaurant was great for breakfast. The pool area was fantastic!
