Very poorly managed and maintained

This hotel was not worth the price

I booked a room that supposedly had a view of the river. That was decidedly misleading, for only between some trees could you see a small patch of water. The rest of the view was a hotel next-door, and the wetland area that borders the river. The lobby felt like it was cooled by a “swamp cooler,“ not a central air-conditioning system. It was extremely uncomfortable. The pool itself is small and unattractively situated. A family using it found no towels, requested some as I stood at the front desk to register, and came back quite a while later still having received no towels. The room itself was OK, and one feature of the large television screen was SiriusXM music stations, which I thought was a nice touch. Though just outside of downtown, it was easy access, and there are some very cool things to check out in Charleston. The first restaurant we went to for lunch was called Ellis Fish Camp, was five minutes from the hotel, and really good, and also really quirky. Dinner was at a place a bit further away, but was unique and very good. That place is called SALTWATER COWBOYS, and has rooftop seating with a commanding view and incredible sunsets. The Fort Sumter tour was astounding, and the biggest surprise was the international African-American Museum, a place I had no interest in visiting, but was deeply moved and educated after having done so. It is a beautiful facility, and absolutely fascinating, as well as disturbing, sad, illuminating and inspiring. See it.

great option for visiting Charleston

The bathroom barn door in our room didn’t work well and my wife injured herself trying to close it. The main room door also didn’t close without excessive force. The doors in the rooms should work, but otherwise the room was clean.

For a newer property it’s looks pretty poorly maintained, room smell was also too strong, housekeeping never came.

Upon arrival everything looked ok and our room looked nice. We had been in the heat all day and just looking forward to getting showers and resting. Shower gel was completely empty, but front desk sent more quickly. Found several pubic hairs in the shower and hotel never acknowledged by message about that. TV was not a smart one and we were unable to screencast our phones so had to watch shows on our phones. Looking forward to sleeping in to be woken by very loud, repetitive noises beginning at 6 AM and continuing for more than 2 hours. Breakfast was not included. Very frustrating and disappointing stay. Would not recommend or return.

Exceptional

Our room was spotless! The entire hotel was clean. The staff was extremely helpful. Breakfast was good. We highly recommend this hotel. And we will be back.

There isn't enough to justify complaining, but there also isn't enough to justify praise, hence the OKAY rating. Cost was too high for what was being offered, 10 years ago this would have been a $100 hotel stay, not $250, so the price went up but it's still a $100 hotel stay, take what you will from that.

The parking is on the lot outside and back of the hotel. No breakfast except for pay at the restaurant. Just go get you a decent brunch in the city
-
The room was clean upon entering but the room was never serviced
-
The room was very nice but impractical. No towel racks in the bathroom except one. Could not hang clothes over shower because it went to the ceiling. Not very practical at all. Breakfast staff was very nice. Very disappointing 2 night stay at this hotel considering it was a Doubletree by Hilton.

Hotel was not the cleanest, plus had too many dogs. Could only imagine that we were sleeping in a bed that had a dog sleeping in it previously as many owners allow dogs to sleep with them. Last, the shower water was ice cold. We told staff and nothing was done about it. Doubletree’s brand and standards have really plummeted over the years. Will never stay at a Doubletree again!

Everything was very nice. Staff was helpful. I would stay there ahain.

Great location- friendly staff- very clean!

Morning breakfast was nice, biscuits were great. Unfortunately, they only had one person working to fill coffee, bring out extra food and cash people out. The poor woman working the breakfast was constantly busy and found it difficult to refill coffee or get us a check. The site did have a vehicle to take you into town and the driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but I just expected more from a DoubleTree hotel.
