Staff were friendly, room was spacious. We stayed during a heatwave, and while there was no air-conditioning, there was no issue being given a fan when we asked for one. If the pub wasnt open, there was no way to speak to anyone. Price high for a very basic experience. Location is quite out of the city and there was no information in the hotel about transport options. Arriving at the pub, I was asked to pay by being sent a link from a payment site I was unfamiliar with. I opted to pay through the booking.com app for peace of mind and several times I was told it hadn't gone through despite showing my booking was now listed as paid on the app.

Friendly staff.

Only location Dirty, needs hovering , dusty, cold, generally needs a good clean because yes you get what you pay for however, it does not mean the room needs to be unclean and dusty. Fortunately I had hay fever tablets due to the dust which aggravated it. In addition the hallway stairs, why not Hoover presentation is everything

the only thing that this place had going for it is its location as we were visiting the hospital on Denmark hill. At least the bed linen was clean. There could have been somewhere to hang clothes, even a hook on the back of a door. A glass to drink water when washing our teeth. The place could have been cleaned.

I stayed at the George Canning because of it's proximity to my daughter's home. It was very basic but convenient and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. The staff helped me with my bag and there was not any significant noise from the Pub. And you can't beat the price! As many people have stated, there was no bathmat, only 1 large towel (2 hand towels), no hairdryer and limited toiletries. The biggest bothers were the lack of hair dryer and no place to hang any clothes.

Awful from start to finish. For the price point ($150 a night) would have expected way more. A tiny hotbox of room with zero ventilation, fan or AC. Literally roasted. Worst nights sleep we’ve ever had in a “ hotel”. A small barren room with zero facilities whatsoever..not even a glass for water. Avoid at all costs Everything. Location is only redeeming feature but not for this price

The location was good and easy to find. The room had lots of space. Nice shower. The room was filthy, very dusty, and clearly hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time. The bathroom light stayed on constantly, and light leaked through the cracks in the door, which was annoying at night. Communication was extremely poor – actually, non-existent. The mobile number provided was always switched off, and they didn’t reply to messages through BDC, email, or even their pub’s Facebook page. The rooms are above a pub. We stayed on the top floor, and while it got a little noisy on the weekend, it’s worth knowing the building is right next to a main road. You’ll hear a lot of traffic noise, including lorries and buses.

A bit of after the Lord Mayors show. We stayed 3 wks prior to this stay, and was happy with the room and staff. This time we were assigned a single room posing as a double one, one bedside table, one set of towels, barely a double bed. Asked to change, by then manager was said none were available, then left it to a very nice member of the bar staff. She relayed back to say there were not any more rooms for us, and suggested we got what we paid for, although it was exactly what we paid 3 wks prior, that same room apparently was now updated to £140, asked for at least a kettle, again, she had to tell us that he’d said there’s not an spares. Due to ongoing medical treatments at Kings, we were using this place as a base. I will not allow my wife to stay here when I’m admitted,. it did seem that because we were both in our 70s we were treated shabbily. For the “manager” to hide away and leave it to the female staff member to deal with us and relay messages was cowardly. 2/10 location was superb for Kings College, but, never again, my wife in her 70s now has to use public transport to see me, or travel home by train the same day.

I liked about the pub vibe, and also the fact it was quite in the room at night even the pub was full. I loved because it is only 8 minutes walk from Kings Hospital and also the fact it was so easy to check in and out. No hassle and I could check in after 8 pm. Perfect. I missed the kettle in my room.

Great location , booked this due to my dad having an op in kings college hospital , it’s 8 mins from kings 4 mins from Denmark hill station. Above a friendly pub with sports pool and darts. Accidentally left my key in my room one day but owner was on hand to let me back in. Tea and coffee facilities in room with tv and on suite internet is a bit hit and miss ( I was at very top of hotel ) so couldn’t get any apps on tv but normal tv was fine . Seen a couple of reviews moan about the noise but once windows were shut I couldn’t hear a thing. Good price for the stay and kept my dad at ease knowing I was close if anything went wrong ! Would definitely recommend and stay again .

Great location. Quiet albeit by road. Bus stop right outside pub and 5 mins from Denmark Hill station. Room was modern but very basic. Would recommend taking your own toiletries and teabags / coffee. Would stay there again.
