San Francisco Proper Hotel

Pleasant

I enjoyed the stay very much. The bed was comfy, room lights were dim and nice but wished they went brighter due to computer work and writing, cute restaurant on site, valet was easy to use, and 5 minute walking distance walk to Bill Graham. Would def come back :)

Funky cool Location sketchy

Great designed hotel and staff, only downfall is the area. Unfortunately not safe to walk around at night. Located in a sketchy area of SF

The Proper is a beautiful boutique hotel with a stylish, welcoming atmosphere and outstanding service. One of its biggest advantages is the location—it's just steps from the Golden Gate Theatre, making it incredibly convenient for catching a Broadway show. We also love starting our mornings with breakfast at Villon, the hotel's restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, the service is friendly, and it's the perfect way to begin the day. The hotel also has an amazing rooftop bar with fantastic views of the city. We've been up there and really enjoyed it, although these days we're usually more interested in getting a good night's sleep after the show than staying out late! The combination of beautiful accommodations, exceptional staff, wonderful dining, and an unbeatable theater district location keeps us coming back. We always look forward to our next stay!

Great hotel. Funky area. But nice rooftop

Awesome hotel that is a genuine oasis in central SF. Stay here with confidence. Great rooms and even better staff in all areas of the hotel.

The neighborhood is not ideal, lots of drug houses nearby. Sad to see.

That said, there were a few things that would keep me from booking here again. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. It was so soft that you completely sank into it and it offered virtually no back support, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The room itself was also darker than expected. The lighting was very dim, and the bathroom felt quite small. While the room appeared clean at first glance, there were several details that made it feel dusty and not thoroughly cleaned. The fabric headboard and the curtains had a noticeable layer of dust, and there were a few missed spots in the bathroom, including visible stains on the toilet. I really wanted to love this hotel because the atmosphere, rooftop, restaurant, and exceptional staff were all wonderful. Unfortunately, comfort and cleanliness are just as important to me, and because of the uncomfortable bed and the housekeeping issues, I don’t think I would choose to stay here again.
