Property was this past. You cannot sleep at night. It was loud street noise. People fighting on the street. Terrible. I was surprised when I saw earplugs on a nightstand but later that night I figured out why they earplugs. I wish I could get my money back.

Staff did not want to give us 2 room keys. Finally did but only 1 would work at a time. We only had a box of kleenex in our room. No toilet paper. The staff refused to give us more than 1 roll of toilet paper. Towels were of the poorest quality I have ever experienced in a hotel in my life. Parking is available but spaces are limited with a very tight parking lot. Elevator is very questionable. Would not recommend.

SOMA Inn is a nice low key motel. It has all one needs, a decent bath, comfy bed, table and chair, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and tv. Furniture is new and cleanliness is above standard of the category. As a bonus, the bed has 3 pillows, each of a different type, so you can pick the best one for you. Close to downtown. The neighbourhood is rough though. During my stay (mid 2026), a guy clearly having a bad trip, roamed around the hotel, thinking he was being chased by a group of imaginary foes (he called by an expletive word for people of African ancestry). He tried to approach everyone he saw, either to get help in his fight or trying to assault, confusing them for his imaginary foes. When he assaulted someone at reception or housekeeping (not sure), four police came, knocked him down, handcuffed him and took him away. The neighbourhood is pretty noisy too, both traffic noise and homeless noise (drug arguments at 3 am)... Would not recommend for families or faint hearted.

Hotel is in the sketchiest of San Francisco neighborhoods and the concierge wanted to charge me a fee to park in a lot that only had 3 other cars parked out of the 12 available spaces. I felt that my car would surely be broken-into had i not paid the extortion fee. Then they wanted hotel fees which is ridiculous considering I'd likely get bed bugs in the establishment. I choose to leave even though i likely would forfeit all i paid. Better safe then sorry and never go to these scammers! In the end, you get what you pay for. I thought a discounted room would be adequate, but the pantless homeless man sleeping next to the trash bins in the parking lot was a sure sign that I should pay a bit more for an established hotel with secure parking and no homeless roaming the parking lot.

Inside the room was clean. It is open to the public, homeless people pass by and on our last day homeless people used the restroom on the property. Upon checking out, the attendant didn’t want to give me a receipt and I had to argue with him to receive one.
