    Spacious and well-designed

The hotel's location is extremely convenient, right in the heart of the city on a pedestrian street. The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards and the hotel has a pleasant atmosphere. The book concept is a great one. A very minor point, but the hotel rooms don't really have much natural light. That said, the size makes up for it, and we were out most of the time anyway.

No doubts its clean and in excellent location. Great on that. Bathroom is in a decent size, something you dont get usually in Japan. You can meet some interesting people while in the hotel. Rooms are tiny. While traveling, sometimes you need to just relax out of the room or leave your partner to rest in the room and you just go away for half hour, then here is the problem: When i sat down in the street level of the hotel to just relax (10pm) , staff came and told me I MUST drink or eat something if i want be sitting basically out of the room. Thats not good. I asked if there is just a tiny corner with an armchair to sit and read my news in the phone while my partner is having a short nap; answer was NO. This isnt good. Im paying to stay in a hotel that doesnt let me sit in its facilities unless im spending more. NOTE THIS: i must spend more, they have sitting area but you need to put money upfront to use it.....

The room was incredibly clean. Bed and pillows were perfectly firm and comfortable. The room was very quiet and we had the best nights rest! Location was fun & bustling (bars/restaurants/shops) with access to subway stations and bus routes - many a short (5-15min) walk away. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was perfect for our needs (they were able to adjust slightly for a gluten free option). Nothing

Clean, modern place, excellent shower, comfy beds, nice breakfast very small window, super close to the other building, we didn’t get natural light at all. Bathroom is nice, but no hangers at all

The ac was towards the bathroom so when we went out of the shower it was very cold

Only four stars because they need better breakfast options for vegetarians. Mozzarella and cherry tomato toast? Even the included soup was made with pork.

Amazing location! Adorable hotel. Nothing. The front desk is a coffee shop but it’s a cute place.

Unique concept, right in the center of the action but still quiet Breakfast was a little weird, but unique and staying with the theme

AMAZING location in a very comfortable, well maintained room

The staff, when they were available, were nice and helpful. The rooms are small but clean and cozy with a nice modern design. As the hotel lobby is also a cafe, the lobby staff are the cafe staff. This means that sometimes you have to wait for them to finish attending the cafe customers to be available. The option to take books to your room sounds really cool until you realize the selection of english books is very limited. You can actually comfortably walk on foot (as in, you don't need to catch a subway go up and down from the subway multiple times) from Sapporo station to the hotel via the underground mall which has an entrance in Tanukikoji, but this isn't actually mentioned anywhere. This might be less of a complaint to the hotel itself, but knowing this in advance (by email for example) would have been helpful.

The hotel is located within Tanukikoji which is very convenient with many shops and restaurants nearby. Limousine bus stop to/from airport is only a short walk away. There is also a cafe on ground floor where you can order coffee to go. Room was clean and well maintained. Good sound insulation. Bed is comfortable and firm. Affordable price. Would be better if there is a seating area for hotel guests in the lobby as they are currently reserved only for cafe customers.

The breakfast was just different types of toast.

Staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and spoke probably some of the best English I’ve seen for any Japanese. The requirement for guests to still have to purchase a drink even if you were staying in the hotel to use the cafe area.

Clean and helpful staff Small rooms

I wasn't given advance notice about my stay at your hotel. As a result I wasn't given a chance to cancel my booking officially again.maybe your property don't have the practice of giving advance notice to your guest.

The location, the building, the staff. I love them! I didn’t like leaving. :( next time I’m visiting Sapporo I’m coming right back to this place 100%.

Location right in the shopping and food street Parking (not free) right next door) The hotel is also a nice and cool Cafe and bookstore- we loved it The rooms are modern and clean The room was tiny- Tokyo style- so not good at all with anything like a big suitcase (No Onsen)

  • Engine customer Jun 2026

Staff were very polite and helpful, and the location couldn't be more perfect - it's on the quiet end of Tanukikoji arcade, with lots of bars, restaurants, and vintage stores within walking distance. Rooms had comfy beds and were clean, and I really liked how the hotel was above a bookshop (guests can request to borrow books from the collection). Coin-operated laundry facilities were much appreciated too. Would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Sapporo.

Of all of the places I stayed in Japan, and I've been here for 3 months, the Lamp Light Books Hotel is probably the best loacted of all of them. Great rooms and great facilities. Highly recommended!
