We loved our stay at the Hotel Nazar. The rooms are basic but have all you need. What’s special is the owner Ilkar. Ilkar is simply a joy; he is easy to converse with on almost anything. As an experienced tour guide, he loves to share advice and recommendations—and all were spot on—as well as context around history and the region. It’s like being with a long-lost friend. Beyond Ilkar, you’ll find an excellent Turkish breakfast each morning, a comfortable lobby area for reading and chatting, and a pool for the hot summers (we were there in early spring, so no swimming then). The neighborhood is largely residential, so fairly quiet but just a few blocks from the town center, the St John basilica, the Isa Bey mosque, the train station, and the bus and mini-shuttle depots. There’s a gated parking lot next to the hotel you can arrange to use in advance. The area might feel a little scruffy to Americans but is perfectly safe. It’s similar to what you find in Sicily. Our stay was just so pleasant and enriching. Highly recommended for anyone who isn’t looking for luxury but instead a great local experience. The hall lights turned off a bit too quickly when trying to insert the key to open the door to our room, so we’d have to wave at the motion sensor to get light to see the lock at night. A very minor “problem” indeed!

The hotel owner, Ilker made our stay unforgettable. He got to know us like family. Ilker was very personable, extremely knowledgeable and willing to help plan/navigate accomplishing our itinerary. An added bonus, was he spoke perfect English. We enjoyed taking public transit to Ephesus and Sirince Village. He helped us book a private ride to Pamukkale and ended up driving us himself, after the driver's family emergency cancelled our ride. We are so thankful for his insights and the all the meaningful conversations. Nothing beats the complimentary traditional Turkish breakfast that included fruit, veggies, eggs and honey from Ilker's own farm, in addition to cheeses, bread and homemade cake.

Excellent location. The hotel is a short walk to restaurants, the Efes Museum and the Selçuk train and bus stations. The staff is friendly the owner was very helpful and gave us advise on where to eat, what to see and what type of ticket to purchase to see the Ephesus Archeological Site, and different museums. The hotel offers a traditional Turkish breakfast (kahvalti), consisting of a hard-boiled egg, bread, cheeses, olives, cucumbers and various spreads, The hotel has a pool although we didn't get to use it because we had a full day of sightseeing. No refrigerator in the room. Hard mattress. The area of the hotel is in a poor but apparently safe neighborhood.

The owner is a fun, kind, and helpful guy. He gives great advice and will go out of his way to help you. He is straightforward about issues you'll encounter and will give you straightforward solutions. The rooms are not the best. Theyre worn down with age. They need a remodeling and updating. but you get what you pay for considering the cost is less than many nearby hotels. I'd still recommend it. I slept fine.

The property was easy walking distance to restaurants and the bus depot for Ephesus. The host was very accommodating and provided us with helpful tips for the area. The pool is an absolute bonus on a hot day. Clean and relaxing. The breakfast was good. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

We stayed at Hotel Nazar for 5 days and it was the best decision we made for our trip to Selçuk. Ilker and his family were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. They helped us plan our visit to Ephesus and other local monuments, and even recommended the best places to eat. The hotel is well located at a walkable distance to all services, restaurants and many manuments, the room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the shower had good pressure and hot water, and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended!

It was an excellent location and the staff were informative and friendly. Elker, the gentleman working the majority of the time was very helpful planning my excursions and spoke excellent English! The bed was very stiff and I frequently woke up with shoulder and back pain. I’m an easy sleeper, but that bed was hard as a rock!

Very friendly landlord who speaks perfect English. He is willing to help you with advice where to eat and what to see. The property is very nicely decorated. The swimming pool is very clean and refreshing. There is a big closed parking by the hotel. Nothing not to like.

Staff provided excellent suggestions to all sites. Yummy breakfast. Large comfortable room, pool, and courtyard . Close to all locations.

The hotel staff were sweet and accommodating. They were eager to help with early checkout and offered recommendations for restaurants in the area. Super sweet pets around as well. Location could have been a bit better but this would not change the decision to stay here. It is an affordable place to rest after a full day of tours and also has an amazing view of the castle on the terrace.
