We like the layout of the room. The mood and texture is just right. Perfect for family. The location of the power plugs is so strange. It is on top of your bed. Risk dropping everything on your head while you sleep or absorb radiation from all your electronic devices charging next to you while you sleep. I don't know what is worse?

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The afternoon happy hour and communal area were really enjoyed by my family. It gave us a chance to put our feet up, meet other travelers and play games with our kids. The public baths were also lovely. As a foreigner, I appreciated the instructions on how to respectfully bath in Japan. Location was very central. We had a rental car but never used it to get around town. Nothing!

Very nice Japanese style hotel. Amazing location.

Exceptional Stay at Hotel Wood Takayama I cannot recommend Hotel Wood Takayama enough. My stay was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The room itself was incredibly comfortable, featuring high-quality mattresses and blankets that made for a perfect night's rest. I particularly loved the lighting design, which was both unique and thoughtfully adjusted to create a relaxing atmosphere. The amenities were a standout part of the experience. The onsen was fantastic, and the provided skin products were of excellent quality. It was also such a lovely touch to have delicious sake served every afternoon—a wonderful way to unwind. The service truly went above and beyond. When the laundry dryers failed after three hours, the front desk team didn't hesitate to take over and handle the laundry for me overnight, which was incredibly accommodating and appreciated. To top it all off, the location is unbeatable, situated very close to the markets, making it convenient to explore the area. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Takayama! the washer and drier but they helped us out with it!

The hotel is simple and minimalist and perfect. Low-key and lovely. I slept extremely well and the location is ideal.

Wonderful location by the old city. Loved the social aspect in the lounge. Handing in the keys each time we left the property.
-
Great location, wonderful lobby for guests to gather and enjoy an evening drink. We also enjoyed the Onsen, spacious rooms and helpful staff! A later checkout time would be nice!

Clean, modern + traditional.

I absolutely adored Hotel Wood. Its location in the historic area of Takayama could not be more perfect. It's lovely in every way. The staff is so friendly and warm, the facilities are beautiful, the complimentary drinks in the lounge are refreshing, and the onsen is lovely. I'm so glad this is where I chose to stay. Nothing

Nice and central. Enjoyed being in old town. And free sake flights!

Incredible value. Incredible location. Incredible staff.

Close to the old town; traditional stylish Japanese room in reasonable rates; no communication difficulties compared to other Japanese hotel (as they have a lot of western tourists); public bath; free drink bar There is a step inside the room. Be careful when you just wake up (between the bed and bathroom)

1. The mattress was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had. It is old and has a huge dip in the middle. I work up every hour because of back pain. In the other hand, the comforter was amazing. 2. Spa was disappointing - you need to bring your own town from the room, but when you return your used towel after spa, now you don't have a towel for the room. It is just inconvenient. 3. Noise - you can hear everything from the hallway or even from next door. Not very comfortable situation.

Location was perfect, hotel was aesthetically pleasing, staff was 100 attentive and helpful. The happy hour was very generous. The beds were a bit too hard for me.

We've stayed at Hotel Wood previously and while the prices are starting to creep up, you can't beat it for comfort, location and style. We find the rooms quite large by Japanese standards, with the beds on a raised platform. They are full mattresses (not futons) but are a bit on the hard side. The shower is good. There is a microwave on the ground floor, a proper onsen which is very clean and modern and sake tastings in the evening. There's also washing machines, which were very helpful to have after several hot days travelling. We paid for the breakfast which is a traditional style Japanese bento box with rice and miso. It's a very large meal to get you started in the morning. The hotel is situated in the middle of the old town, a stone's throw from museums and quaint architecture. There's a Family Mart just near the front door. It can be tricky to find places to eat in the evening as, like many 'tourist' towns, things close early or are booked out. Our hotel reception rang ahead and got us in to a great soba noodle place that was showing as booked out. Make sure you ask at reception if you need assistance. I know we will stay again the next time we come. I really don't like the use of paper cups in the rooms. For quite a stylish hotel, it's disappointing for them not to have ceramic cups in the rooms, given they have them at breakfast. It's wasteful and no one wants to drink their tea or coffee out of a paper cup. Some older people may struggle getting up onto the bedding platform as there is no step.

The breakfast was tasty and of good quality, but we felt it was quite basic and lacked variety.
-
Maybe it will be better if TV is in the room ??
-
Location Laundry facility - good idea but not really user friendly with only two dryers which take a long time to dry up the clothing.
-
N/A SPA on the first floor near lobby, so I didn't use coz it was kinda open zone.
